Utopia Service Ambassador set to become first African Master Sommelier!

Utopia Cape Town Service Ambassador and Sommelier Loried Munetsi has just been featured in the latest Knight Frank estate agents ‘Standing Out’ digital newsletter.

I know Loried as a waiter at Utopia, and am impressed with his wine knowledge when I sometimes join the waitrons for wine tastings with winery representatives.

Loried has big dreams as far as enhancing his wine knowledge goes.

Loried has studied at the Cape Wine Academy and has completed WSET Level 3. He is currently working on his Introductory Sommelier Certificate with the Court of Master Sommeliers, his dream being to become the first African Master Sommelier. He has also completed a cocktail and spirits qualification at the Diageo Bar Academy.

Loried grew up in Zimbabwe, and neither of his parents are wine drinkers. He worked at a number of restaurants when he moved to Cape Town, but it is at Utopia,  and its predecessor Vue Sky Bar Lounge, that he has found his happy space in the past five years. It is in this time that he met Alister Zengenene, who introduced him to the wine industry.  He now suggests pairings of wines to dishes that his guests order at Utopia.

Some of his favourite local wines include Klein Constantia Sauvignon Blanc, Beaumont Family Wines Hope Marguerite Chenin Blanc, Ataraxia and Pasarene Chardonnays, Warwick Trilogy, Paserene Marathon, Chamonix Troika, Dalla Cia Teano, Marianne Wine Farm Floreal, and Rupert & Rothschild Baron Edmond.

Utopia is a Communications Client.
