*   South African wines need an international champion to market them overseas.  International companies with drinks interests, such as LVMH and Pernod Ricard, have no local wine interests, but do have in Australia.

*   Uber is increasingly utilising metered taxis as part of its operation, despite the Western Cape Metered Taxi Council calling for the shut-down of the transport service. Uber says it has created 2000 jobs in our country in the past two years, and could create a further 15000 jobs in the next two years.

*   Our country’s visa regulations could be revised, according to President Jacob Zuma.  He said ‘To attract foreign skills for our growing economy, we will invite dialogue with various stakeholders on the Migration Policy. We will also prioritise the review of visa regulations to strike a balance between national security and growth in tourism’.

*  A Canadian wine article shares that ‘After Decades of obscurity, South African wines are taking centre stage’, with an increasing number of good reviews by international wine critics since 2013. High-profile foreigners have bought wine estates in our Winelands. LCBO stores in Ontario are running a promotion for South African wines, with a trip for two to the Cape as a prize.  Wines available are The Wolftrap Syrah Mourvèdre Viognier 2013, Thelema Mountain Red 2012, Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay 2013, Cape Heights Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2013, and Bellingham Big Oak Red 2013.

*   South African cuisine is coming to Kate’s Kitchen in San Francisco this evening, with a ‘Poykee Pop-Up Dinner’ consisting of 4-courses as well as 5 glasses of wine, costing $12.  A  potjie, chakalaka, bunny chow, pap, Indian curry dishes, and rooibos crème brûlée will be served, prepared by ex-Johannesburg waitress Sankara Gibbs working at the restaurant.
