* At the SAACI Congress Wesgro has been named as South Africa’s best Convention Bureau, and the Cape Town International Convention Centre the country’s best Convention venue. (via Twitter)
* Hanneli Slabber, SA Tourism Country Manager for India, has received the ‘Best Professional in Marketing‘ award at the Safari India National Tourism Awards. Since her appointment in India, there has been a marked growth in tourists from India to South Africa.
* Minister of Tourism Derek Hanekom has praised the role of Business Tourism as well as of Events, in addressing the SAACI (South African Association for the Conference Industry) Congress today. He said that this sector of Tourism, which has an above average spend when visiting a country, and a higher ratio of return visits, helps to address the National Development Plan challenges, and in providing employment. Both Cape Town and Durban rank in the Top 100 convention cities. The industry contributes R1,2 billion to the economy.
* World Tourism Day will be celebrated at Neethlingshof in Stellenbosch on 27 September, with the inaugural ‘Savour Stellenbosch Valley‘, to celebrate the second oldest town in our country and its cuisine, music, and wines. Each wine farm participating in the event, including Middelvlei, The House of JC le Roux, Van Ryn’s, Fleur du Cap, and Neethlingshof, will offer five wines for tasting. Entrance costs R300. * Adam Mason and Chef Peter Tempelhoff make Marvelous wine, and the Marvelous Red 2011 is the wine of the month on the American Monsters & Critics website. The Marvelous range has recently been launched in the USA.
* Three Ships Whisky has awarded a bursary to Thabang Motaung, a student at the HTA School of Culinary Art in Johannesburg, allowing him to complete his studies in 2016. His dream is to gain work experience on cruise liners, and then to join Chef David Higgs at the Saxon Hotel. (received via media release from De Kock Communications)
