* Camps Bay has made the 11th spot on the list of TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Top 25 Beaches in the World. Ahead of Camps Bay on the top 10 list are Baia do Sancho in Brazil, Grace Bay in Turks & Caisos, Rabbit Beach in Sicily, Playa Paraiso Beach in Cuba, Playa de Ses Illetes in the Baleiric Islands, Anse Lazio in the Seychelles, White Beach in Aklon Province, Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsunday Islands, and Elafonissi Beach in Greece. Camps Bay is the only African beach on the list.
* ‘Neill Anthony: The Private Chef‘ is a new 13-episode lifestyle and cooking show to be screened on SABC3 from 15 March, at 16h30. It will reflect the cooking and catering Chef Neill does for high society and A-list socialites in their homes, as well as the sourcing of ingredients. Chef Neill has worked with Chefs Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Waering in London. The programme series is likely to be sold to international broadcasters. ‘Food is what I do. Keeping it local, seasonal and rustic‘ said Chef Neill.
* Noble Hill won three Gold Medals at the Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards, a competition judged by women only, for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, and Mourvèdre Rosé. The Blanc de Blancs won a silver medal. Close to 3000 wines from around the world entered. (received via e-mail from Noble Hill)
* FMC Chenin Blanc 2000 won the inaugural Top SA Luxury White Taste Off, a Johannesburg and Cape Town blind tasting of our country’s most expensive white wines organised by Wine Cellar. Chenin Blanc wines led the tasting field. ‘Carefully managing an older vineyard is the key to quality. The yields are around three to four tons per hectare and each bunch is left with 16-18 leaves for ripening. The vineyard is picked a minimum of four times during harvest, with the help of the Normalised Density Vegetative Index (NDVI), a system where aerial photographs determine which pockets are similar in vegetation density allowing them to be picked alone ensuring overall optimal ripeness. Furthermore the property is located in a valley near False Bay, a mere six km from the Atlantic Ocean, enjoying ocean breezes and a moderate, cool climate‘, explains Ken Forrester. * The Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Programme has added a viticulture intern (its first) Logan Jooste to its three winemaking interns Mahalia Matshete, Clayton Christians, and Kiara Scott this year. Since its inception nine years ago, a total of 17 interns have been enrolled onto the programme. Nine are currently employed in the wine industry. (received via media release from GC Communications)
