* Sharing services such as Uber and Airbnb are coming under pressure to comply with laws of running their businesses and paying taxes, some countries reacting strictly, and others welcoming their input to the expansion of the economy. Uber was banned in Germany for a while, but has been allowed to operate again. Airbnb has picked up problems in Barcelona for breaching the city’s rental rules. A number of court cases in the USA alone relate to payment of gratuities to drivers, advertised as being included in the price, but drivers do not appear to be receiving their full gratuities.
* The World’s 50 Best Restaurants has moved its presentation date to Monday 1 June 2015, having hosted the awards at the end of April for the past twelve years. The awards recognise the best restaurants in the world. In 2014 only The Test Kitchen made the prestigious top 50 list. * Saronsberg has relaunched its Provenance range with a new label, depicting the ‘From Earth, From Water‘ sculpture by Angus Taylor, which stands outside the wine estate’s cellar, and is continuing the reflection of good art in its labels over its ten year history. Work by the late Paul du Toit was used on the labels previously. (received via media release from Waterford Communications)
* The 5th Cape Town Festival of Beer will be held on 28 – 30 November at Hamilton’s Rugby Club. The Festival is the country’s largest celebration of local and international beer, made by mega- and micro-brewers. Food stands, food and beer pairings, home brewing demos, live entertainment, and beer sampling will be offered. Beer brands Red Bridge Brewing Co, Belgian Beer Co, Woodstock Brewery, Just Brewing, Leopold 7, Savage Brew, Stellenbrau, London Pride, Brewdog, Standeaven, Lakeside, Red Sky Brew, and Jack Black will be represented. * Holden Manz is offering a limited number of bottles of its Visionare 2012 signed by co-owner Migo Manz in the UK, supported by technical information about the wines, and festive season greetings from Manz and co-owner Gerard Holden. The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, and Malbec, with a little Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc added, and salutes the French Huguenots, who brought winemaking to Franschhoek.
