*   Label design can make an important impact on the purchase of a bottle of wine, argues the Wall Street Journal, as can a comedy play on wine brand names for ‘much cheaper wines‘, mentioning Fairview’s Goats do Roam, based on Côtes du Rhône!

*   The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Français has dropped to 88th spot on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, the 51 – 100 ranking having been released today, ahead of the Gala awards function on 1 June.

*   Nederburg winemaker for the past 15 years, Razvan Macici, is to take on the role of Distell’s head winemaker as of 1 July, a new position, to oversee the style and quality of the company’s total wine portfolio, driving innovation, and acting as the ambassador for the company’s portfolio of wines.  Andrea Freeborough, currently head of Die Bergkelder, will take over Macici’s job at Nederburg.  Wim Truter will take on Freeborough’s job at Die Bergkelder.

*  Baron Stephan von Neipperg has bought a share in Capaia in Philadelphia. The baron owns wine estates Château Canon la Gaffelière and La Mondotte in Saint Emilion.

*  Three South African wine estates participated in the Artisan Wine Fair London (RAW Fair), representing natural, organic, and biodynamic wines: Intellego Wines, Testalonga Wines, and Ezibusisweni Wines (owned by Farmer Angus in Stellenbosch).

*   Relais & Châteaux recently celebrated its 60th anniversary as an association of small quality hotels. Our country has eleven properties, out of 530 globally, including Delaire Graff Lodges & Spa, the McGrath Collection of hotels in Constantia, Hermanus, and Plettenberg Bay, Ellerman House, and Bushmans Kloof, reports Hotel and Restaurant.

*   The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is developing a service which will allow travel agents globally, to check if customer data is flagged regarding prior air ticket fraud, reports Travel News Weekly.
