‘Penguin Town’ Netflix documentary puts Simonstown on the map (again), nominated for 6 Daytime Emmys!

 

Following hot on the heels of the documentary ‘My Octopus Teacher’ winning an Oscar for the South African and Cape production in 2021, a new local documentary ‘Penguin Town’ has been nominated for six 49th annual Emmy Daytime Awards.

The Film has been nominated in the ‘Outstanding Travel, Adventure and Nature Program’ category, one of five contenders in the category. It has also been nominated in the ‘Outstanding Music Direction and Composition’ (with the theme song ‘Pushin’ On’ composed by Cape Town’s The Kiffness), in ‘Outstanding Single Camera Editing’, in  ‘Outstanding Sound Mixing and Sound Editing’,  in ‘Outstanding Daytime Program Host’, and in the ‘Outstanding Cinematography’ categories. Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis leads by example, gets his hands dirty to keep beautiful Cape Town clean, including Camps Bay!

 

On Saturday 14 May Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis attended our Community Litter Clean at Maidens Cove in Camps Bay, his presence attracting 77 adults and children, with 145 bags filled and taken for recycling by I know a Guy Recycling!

I organise a Community Litter Clean in Camps Bay once a month, usually focusing on the Camps Bay Beach area, meeting opposite The 41 Restaurant, which sponsors a beverage for each participant, and a prize of two The 41 burgers for the person collecting the most litter. Continue reading →

Cape Town ranks third on The Telegraph Greatest Cities on Earth list!

 

In March The Telegraph announced that Cape Town is the greatest city in the world to visit right now. Last week it ranked Cape Town as the third greatest city on Earth, scoring 549 out of 810 points.

Utilising a list of 50 Top city contenders, its annual reader survey, and input from its Travel writers, it ranked the list of cities on a number of factors, including the number of museums, galleries, UNESCO heritage sites, Michelin restaurants,  5-star hotels, beaches, air cleanliness,  transport, tourist attractions, legalized same-gender marriage, and LGBTQ+ community safety. Additional points went to cities with a symphony orchestra, and a metro system.

Cape Town Tourism launches ‘Find your Freedom’ marketing campaign in London, New York, Berlin, and Cape Town!

 

Cape Town Tourism launched its most significant marketing campaign ever last night, the ‘Find your Freedom’ interactive immersive campaign launching simultaneously in Cape Town, Berlin, London and New York. The launch took place at the Zeitz MOCAA.

Intended to run until the end of the year, the ‘Find your Freedom’ campaign is aimed at Millennials, described as travellers who would prefer to be guided in a City than to buy and use a guide book. The traveller chooses the adventure, and finds his/her freedom.  Continue reading →
