Meet Chef Jenny Morris of Yumcious : 2021 Top 10 Woman Chef!

 

Chef Jenny Morris is a household name, not only locally but also internationally, through TV cooking shows, a radio show, six cookbooks, and through her restaurant Yumcious and her catering company Giggling Gourmet – The Cooks Playground, both in the Cape Quarter.  Chef Jenny is one of our 2021 Top 10 Women Chefs. She has won a bottle of Adhara Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil,

Chef Jenny is planning to reopen Yumcious this week, after the sad passing last month of her dear husband and business partner David.

Jenny and David opened Yumcious six years ago. She writes cookbooks, the latest one being ‘Yumcious’, with another up her sleeve. She and Reza Mohammed have done cooking shows  on their Fabulous Food Academy on the Food Network.  She also is a regular presenter on Heart FM.

Cape’s Top 10 Women Chefs of 2021 announced on Women’s Day!

 

Last week we announced that we were seeking nominations for the Cape’s Top 10 Women Chefs, the prize of a bottle of ADHARA Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil going to each of our top chefs, kindly sponsored by Venishree Mayer, co-owner and olive oil producer of Fraaigelegen Farm in Tulbagh.

We are grateful for the nominations that we have received. We congratulate the Top 10 Women Chefs in the Cape.

Restaurant industry badly hit by Level 4 Lockdown in July, but few casualties except The Test Kitchen: August update!

 

In June I reported how well the restaurant industry was doing, booming since being allowed to serve alcohol again since February, and that two new top restaurants were opening in June:  Utopia Co-owner Executive Chef Pavel Dimitrov opened Zest Restaurant in the newkings boutique hotel in Piazza da Luz in Sea Point (Photograph), and Homespun Chef Matt Schreuder opened his second Homespun, at the Andros Boutique Hotel in Claremont.

Sadly, the Lockdown Level 4 regulations announced at the end of June to curb the Covid Third Wave, closing restaurants until 11 July, only allowing Food Collection and Delivery from 11 – 25 July, had a devastating effect on the industry, most restaurants not reopening until the country went back to Level 3 on 26 July, which allowed alcohol to be sold again. The shock of 2021 was the announcement last week of Chef Luke Dale Roberts’ The Test Kitchen closing down at the end of September. Continue reading →
