Boekenhoutskloof has added a Chenin Blanc and a Chardonnay to its value-for-money Porcupine Ridge range, expanding its popular wine range.
Boekenhoutskloof thrives at the top end of the market, as it does at the value end, led by Cellar Master Marc Kent, now assisted by Gottfried Mocke, previously of Chamonix.
The lightly-Oaked Chardonnay 2014 has a creamy citrus character. Grapes were sourced from Elgin, Wellington, and Robertson. The Chenin Blanc 2014 offers stone fruit. The grapes were hand-picked and came from unirrigated Swartland bush-vines. No wooding took place during the winemaking process.
Named after a farm inhabitant, the Cape Porcupine, Boekenhoutskloof is sponsoring a study about it, called ‘Porcupine Quest’, to understand more about it, its role in biodiversity, and to focus on its conservation. Marc Kent said: ‘We’re very excited to be sponsoring this initiative. The porcupine is a vital part of our biodiversity and we need to understand more about its role. He’s been on our label for years as a symbol of our valley’s natural wild-life; this is a great opportunity to get to know him better. We think it’s the least we can do for our favourite figurehead‘.
The two new Porcupine Ridge wines have screw cap closures, are available at local outlets at a value range of R36 – R42 a bottle. The brand is also available internationally. The Porcupine Ridge range of wines includes a Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier Grenache Blanc white blend, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a Syrah Mourvèdre red blend.
