August 2022 Restaurant Opening and Closing Update: Cape Town & Winelands!

 

 

New restaurants are still opening, or planning to open, in Cape Town and the Winelands, despite it being Winter.

The biggest recent restaurant opening has been by Chef Liam Tomlin, who opened The Bailey, a three storey Brasserie, Bakery, and two Bars across the road from Heritage Square. He has closed down his Chefs Warehouse on Bree Street. Ouzeri also opened in June.

Restaurant Artizian will open on Bree Street this month. Chef Peter Tempelhoff is said to open a Japanese Street Food restaurant on the ground floor of Speakers Corner, the building in which FYN operates, in September. Continue reading →

New restaurants are still opening, or planning to open, in Cape Town and the Winelands, despite it being Winter.

The biggest recent restaurant opening has been by Chef Liam Tomlin, who opened The Bailey, a three storey Brasserie, Bakery, and two Bars across the road from Heritage Square. He has closed down his Chefs Warehouse on Bree Street. Ouzeri also opened last month.

Restaurant Artizian will open on Bree Street in August. Chef Peter Tempelhoff is said to open a Japanese Street Food restaurant on the ground floor of Speakers Corner, the building in which FYN operates, in September. June 2022 Cape Town & Winelands Restaurant Update: More Restaurants opening!

 

New restaurants are still opening, or planning to open in Cape Town and the Winelands, despite it being Winter.

The biggest planned restaurant opening is that by Chef Liam Tomlin, who will open The Bailey, a three storey Brasserie, Bakery, and two Bars across the road from Heritage Square.  His opening has run late, the Café opening on 7 June, and the Brasserie and Old Bailey open a week later, on 14 June. He has closed down his Chefs Warehouse on Bree Street.

Breaking News: Vivienne Morrisby takes over ownership of Cheyne’s, Lucky Bao, Mexicola Locale, and Ding Dong!

 

Vivienne Morrisby, wife of Chef Cheyne Morrisby, has taken over the ownership of the family restaurants: Cheyne’s, Lucky Bao and Mexicola Locale in Hout Bay, and Ding Dong on Shortmarket Street in the city centre.  Ding Dong was previously in De Waterkant, and will re-open opposite The House of Machines in the pedestrian section of Shortmarket Street in June.

Himitisu at the Camps Bay Retreat closed down at the beginning of this month, and all other restaurants owned by the family in De Waterkant and in the Egg in Cavendish have been closed down. Continue reading →
