Vivienne Morrisby, wife of Chef Cheyne Morrisby, has taken over the ownership of the family restaurants: Cheyne’s, Lucky Bao and Mexicola Locale in Hout Bay, and Ding Dong on Shortmarket Street in the city centre.  Ding Dong was previously in De Waterkant, and will re-open opposite The House of Machines in the pedestrian section of Shortmarket Street in June.

Himitisu at the Camps Bay Retreat closed down at the beginning of this month, and all other restaurants owned by the family in De Waterkant and in the Egg in Cavendish have been closed down.

Mrs Morrisby confirmed that she is now the sole legal owner of the four family restaurants, and that her husband is no longer involved in the business.

She said: ‘Cheyne’s is a landmark Asian restaurant in Hout Bay, which has operated on the Hout Bay Main Road for the past nine years. Lucky Bao operates from the same building. Mexican Mexicola Locale is located not far from Cheyne’s. Each of these restaurants has loyal support from locals, and I want to thank each of our regular diners, our wonderful loyal staff, and our suppliers for their kind words and support this past weekend. I have taken legal and financial ownership of all four our restaurants, and confirm that we have no plans to close any of our restaurants, or to change our menus or the dining experience at our restaurants. In fact we are opening Ding Dong in the city centre. Continuing to keep our restaurants operating will be for the good of our staff, who need our support, and who have developed wonderful relationships with our clients. My family and I wish Cheyne well in his recovery, and in his future plans.’

Mrs Morrisby will be introducing Winter Specials in each of her four restaurants from June.
