Friday 16 July 2021, Day 19 of Level 4 đŸ˜·

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a most beautiful day, with sunshine at 17C, a shorts and sleeveless top day; for getting my writing done this morning and admin this afternoon; for a longer walk today, up Houghton Road, and down my secret Bakoven lanes, photographing flowers in the main, reflecting the beauty in my life; for being a peaceful day in the Cape, feeling totally safe here; and for being happy, healthy, and free.

The Sweet Service Award went to Labotessa Café; the Sour Service Award went to the Department of Home Affairs!

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March 2020 and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, and moved back to Adjusted Level 3 from 29 December,  extended to 15 February on 11 January 2021, extended but relaxed on 1 February, and relaxed back to Level 1 on 1 March 2021, moved back to Adjusted Level 2 on 31 May, moved back to level 3 on 16 June, and moved back to Adjusted Level 4 on 28 June and extended by two weeks on 11 July,  is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.

Sweet Service Award goes to Labotessa Café; Sour Service Award goes to Department of Home Affairs!

The Sweet Service Award goes to Labotessa CafĂ© in the Hotel with the same name, and its owner Johan du Plessis.  The CafĂ© serves the most delicious Dutch-style apple tart and cream, and has become a special hide-away break on Church Square in the City.  On a former visit to the CafĂ© I had shared with Johan how wonderful the Dyptique shampoo which he had gifted me is for my hair. As I left the CafĂ©, his assistant handed me a packet with more Dyptique shampoo and conditioner. Yesterday I popped in for another slice of tart after a client meeting, and Johan and I had a long conversation in the cosy Dutch-inspired CafĂ©. He refused to accept my payment for the tart. SeaBreeze Fish & Shell continues operating while the owners await SA visa renewal in Scotland, Chef Alex Grahame cooking at Balmoral Castle!

I became aware of a change at SeaBreeze Fish & Shell on Social Media, when Chef Alex Grahame started following me on Instagram, and I received a Like request for the restaurant’s Facebook Page, after the latter had been hacked, and they lost all their Friends.

Following Chef Alex on Instagram, I noticed his posts advertising for kitchen staff at the restaurant at Balmoral Castle, the Queen’s summer residence in Scotland.  Now being completely curious, I messaged him and called the restaurant.

I wrote a Review about SeaBreeze after it opened in 2017.

Is Government realistic in speculation of opening SA borders to all international visitors by December?

In an interview with EWN, and reported by Business Tech, Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane said that she ‘hopes’ that our country’s borders will be reopened to all foreign tourists before the holiday period commences in December.  This speculation by the Minister comes against a background of a dramatic Second Wave spike in Covid-19 infections in many European countries, the UK, and the USA, which is expected to worsen as they face winter.  Continue reading →
