Live-Cook Channel challenges home cooking skills: making Chef Reuben Riffel’s Pan-roasted prawns and hake!

During earlier Levels of Lockdown last year I was invited to participate in the Live-Cook Channel cook-alongs, starting with none less than Chef Luke Dale Roberts of The Test Kitchen. I had the assistance of my MasterChick Jenny Stephens at my side, and she did most of the cooking and I made notes, poured the wine, and took photographs. This was to become our pattern in three such Live-Cook Channel challenges. Yesterday I decided to challenge myself to do the cooking of Chef Reuben Riffel’s Pan-roasted prawns and hake on my own, making it a real hands-on experience.

It was a nerve-wracking experience in preparing it on my own, but I am proud of the end-result.

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 61 of Level 3 Adjusted, 24 February 2021

Wednesday 24 February 2021, Day 61 of Level 3 Adjusted, Day 336 of Lockdown 😷.

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Gratitude for a lovely sunny day, but with a strong wind blowing now; for an organized writing morning and meeting preparation; for Minsky returning home at 8h00 this morning after galavanting for 12 hours, being very worried about her and sleeping very badly; for a very quick walk through Bakoven and its lanes, too short a walk to make any impact with Discovery; for returning to Labotessa Café which I discovered last week, having a breakfast lunch; for a good first Status meeting at Anatoli; for a meeting with Juanita Levetan, a member of the Sea Point, Fresnaye, Bantry Bay Ratepayers & Residents Association, exchanging experiences about cleaning litter in Sea Point and Camps Bay; for a partly nerve-wracking Live Cook Channel cooking of pan-roasted prawns and hake, with linguine and a fennel crème, designed by Chef Reuben Riffel; for topping up petrol at BP President on Regent Road, only needing a third of a tank added, happy that Michael was on duty, a fabulous petrol attendant; for two Discovery Gameboard plays, one generating 500 points, and a total of 675 between the two, allowing me to buy a Woolies R100 voucher; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 7 of Level 2, 24 August 2020.

Monday 24 August 2020, Day 7 of Level 2, after 151 days of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful day, with gorgeous sunshine, at 18C; for a slower day, allowing me to catch up with myself after a very busy week last week ❤️; for a good walk in Camps Bay linked to Bakoven this afternoon, with more litter to pick up after a busy Sunday in Camps Bay yesterday; for a beautiful sunset, and stripy clouds earlier today; for the amazing news that our Cape Town water supply dams are 88% full; for our Woolworths Camps Bay coming second, after their corporate head office, in the Woolworths #JerusalemaChallenge; for dancing to Kfm to meet my step goal; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Two MasterChicks from Wellington cook Beef Wellington with Live-Cook Channel, guided by Chefs Luke Dale Roberts and Pete Goffe-Wood,

I was invited by Heidi Kuyper, Sales & Marketing Executive of SA Chef Media, to join Episode 2 of the Live-Cook Channel last Thursday evening, learning to prepare Beef Wellington with the guidance of Chef Luke Dale Roberts of The Test Kitchen, and the MC for the show being Consultant Chef Pete.Goffe-Wood.

Live-Cook Channel launched the concept of cooking with celebrity chefs in the comfort of one’s own home, receiving the ingredients required for the meal delivered to one’s home, enough to serve a group of two or four diners, with guidance of a recipe card and by the celebrity chef via the broadcast on a YouTube channel as to how to prepare a signature dish.
