Franschhoek relaunches Cap Classique Route, celebrates with Festival 1 – 4 September!

 

Franschhoek launched a Cap Classique Route a number of years ago.  On Thursday this week the Route will be relaunched, coinciding with Cap Classique Day on 1 September.

The relaunched Cap Classique Route will be celebrated with a four day festival, from 1 – 4 September. Each of 19 Cap Classique producing wine estates are inviting bubbly lovers to their cellars, to taste their excellent bubblies and to experience special events.  Continue reading →

Chefs Warehouse on Bree Street closes down, no presence in Heritage Square anymore!

 

After 8 years of opening Chefs Warehouse & Canteen on Bree Street, the second venue of Chef Liam Tomlin’s first Cape Town restaurant, and despite undergoing a name change more recently, the Tapas restaurant closed down yesterday.

The closure of Chefs Warehouse & Canteen Winebar & Pinchos brings to an end the presence of Chef Liam’s businesses in Heritage Square, having walked away from Local, his Lebanese restaurant Mazza, and La Cantina earlier this year. Continue reading →

Chef Arno Janse van Rensburg leaves Janse & Co, restaurant will continue to operate when it reopens!

 

The Corona Lockdown brings interesting news, and challenges and changes, so it was a surprise when I opened up my Instagram to the Janse & Co post last night, announcing the departure of Chef Arno Janse van Rensburg at the end of this month. No future plans are revealed. The restaurant is currently closed, but the Instagram post hints at the reopening of the restaurant at an undefined time.

Chef Arno is one of my favourite chefs, demonstrating no ego, staying in the background with very low key Social Media presence, and does things differently in every way.  During the beginning of Lockdown he and his wife Liezl worked tirelessly in cooking with Ladles of Love to feed many disadvantaged communities in Cape Town. He opened Janse & Co just over two years ago, after leaving Maison in Franschhoek, which was then my favorite restaurant in the gourmet village. Whilst at Maison, Chef Arno took the month-long restaurant winter closures to travel to Spain, South America, and other countries, to learn more about food.

Eat Out announces the Top 30 Restaurant list for 2018: some surprise inclusions and exclusions!

This afternoon Eat Out announced its list of the Top 30 restaurants in our country for this year. The Top 20 restaurants will be revealed at the Awards ceremony on 18 November at GrandWest, and the Top 10 list within that ranking.
