New restaurants are still opening, or planning to open in Cape Town and the Winelands, despite it being on the eve of Winter.

The biggest planned opening is that by Chef Liam Tomlin, who will open The Bailey, a three storey Brasserie, Bakery, and two Bars across the road from Heritage Square.  His opening is running late. He has closed down his Chefs Warehouse on Bree Street. Restaurant Artizian will open on Bree Street in July. Chef Peter Tempelhoff is said to open a Japanese Street Food restaurant on the ground floor of Speakers Corner, the building in which FYN operates. Corona Lockdown Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a hot Summer’s day, peaking at 34C, therefore going for a very early walk to Woolies, only having slept for 4 hours, after so much sleep yesterday; for a mega security camera installation started in our Ebbtide apartment block today, allowed to help choose where the 9 cameras must go, this issue having caused great stress last week, more installation work lying ahead for tomorrow; for a busy work morning; for getting caught up in a Netflix series ‘Inventing Anna’, another swindle story; for photographing Valentine’s Day diners and dishes at Anatoli, Utopia, and Zezt, all three restaurants busy this evening; for a Valentine’s Day spoil Dairy Den ice cream ❤️; and for being happy, healthy and free. 🙏💙

My Blogpost today was about the Breaking News that Chef Christiaan Campbell has moved to McGregor and opened at Temenos.

Breaking News: Top ethical food-sourcing chef opens in McGregor!

Chef Christiaan Campbell has left the Werf Restaurant at Boschendal after 7 years, and opened his restaurant Tebaldi’s at the spiritual retreat Temenos in McGregor a week ago.

I first met Christiaan Campbell ten years ago, when he headed up the kitchen at Delaire Graff, and my son worked in the restaurant as a student waiter. Campbell previously worked at the Chef Naval School and Cellars-Hohenhort.

As far as I can recall, Chef Christiaan was the first South African chef to focus on ethical sourcing of ingredients for his kitchen, focusing on organic ingredients. He refuses to serve foie gras as he focuses on the humane treatment of animals.

Nuy on the Hill serves excellent food with good service, good value wines, worth a stop on the R62!

At the end of a recent trip to Plettenberg Bay, after a one-night stop in McGregor, my Parisian friend and I stopped for lunch and a wine taste at Nuy on the Hill, on the R62, between Robertson and Worcester, at the invitation of its Marketing Manager AC (Arthur Claude) Goodger. I have driven alongside it hundreds of times, on past trips to Plett and to Temenos in McGregor, but had never made a stop. We were impressed with the quality of the food and service, as well as the wines we tasted.
