Zesty new wood fire grill Zest Restaurant opens in newkings Boutique Hotel in Sea Point, focus on Fresh is best!

 

Utopia Cape Town co-owner Chef Pavel Dimitov has opened his first own restaurant, called Zest, on the second floor of the newkings boutique hotel in the Piazza da Luz in Sea Point. The focus of Chef Pavel’s new restaurant is that local and fresh is best.

The opportunity to collaborate with the 42-room newkings boutique hotel presented itself. A refurbishment of the hotel by its owner Romao da Luz was accompanied by the creation of a brand new restaurant space and kitchen, with an Events and Meeting venue linked to the restaurant. Fideli’s Deli opens its doors to freshness and finest foods and wines to enjoy, or to take home!

 

Yesterday Fideli’s opened on Parliament Street on Church Square in the City centre, a very fine Deli as well as eating and drinking spot next door to Pilcrow & Cleaver, both owned by the very enterprising Chef Judi Fourie. The space was previously that of Kleinsky’s. While small, it spills out into a covered side section, almost doubling its size. I have not seen such beautiful presentation of food and beverages in a Deli before, as I did at Fideli’s yesterday.

I became the first customer of the new Fideli’s, as I was looking for a gift to take to a lunch I was heading to, but of course could not resist filling up my own pantry with some of the delectable items. Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for the huge amount of rain that has fallen today, in Cape Town as well as here in Wellington, excellent for the new vines that have just been planted; for the fabulous flexibility of our Wellington Wine Walk hosts for keeping us dry, in shuttling us to all our stops today, as it poured non-stop; for the entertaining and educational tastings of Buchu, Olive oil, and Wines at various stops in Wellington; for our cosy accommodation at Dunstone wine estate; for a good dinner at the Dunstone restaurant; for a warm bed; for the confirmation of the Carte Blanche interview with Carte Blanche presenter Derek Watts happening at my home next week; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Babylonstoren 2 opens as The Newt in Somerset in the UK, celebrates local produce, history, and beauty!

 

It was by chance that I heard about The Newt in Somerset opening in the UK last year, a property which Babylonstoren owners Koos Bekker and Karen Roos bought in 2013 as Hadspen House, renaming the renovated estate, and turning it into a property similar to Babylonstoren outside Franschhoek.
