Exciting news from Franschhoek is that Chef Scot Kirton’s La Colombe team will take over the current The Tasting Room space at Le Quartier Français when Chef Margot Janse leaves The Tasting Room at the end of April next year. The new restaurant will open in August next winter with an as yet undisclosed name, after renovations have been completed.
Announced by Leeu Collection today, the La Colombe chef team of Scot Kirton and James Gaag will drive the development of the new restaurant, planned to complement the existing La Colombe. The restaurant opened an award-winning sister restaurant Foxcroft in Constantia recently. La Colombe is South Africa’s second best restaurant according to Eat Out, and won awards for Best Restaurant Service as well as exemplary service offered by its Manager Jennifer Hugé at the Eat Out Awards last month. Last year Chef Scot was named the Eat Out San Pellegrino Chef of the Year.
Leeu Collection founder Mr Analjit Singh enthused about the new partnership as follows: ‘It is said that like minded people attract each other. Our partnership with La Colombe is an outcome of that same synergy and spirit. When my family first visited Cape Town a few years ago, La Colombe became one of our favorite restaurants. In a sense, the circle is complete yet again. La Colombe has found us and the Leeu Collection has found them. We look forward to welcoming the team from La Colombe to complement our portfolio‘. In June La Colombe under Chef Scot, and for the first time since its move to Silvermist two years ago, was named 76th best restaurant in the World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards. The Forest-themed Tasting Menu of La Colombe has won acclaim for its creativity, and in reflecting the forest surroundings of the restaurant at its Silvermist location.
Chef Scot and his team will offer the same excellent cuisine and service excellence it has become well-known for at the new restaurant at Le Quartier Français. He said about the new restaurant: ‘We immediately saw the synergy between Constantia and Franschhoek. Both the Franschhoek and Constantia Valleys are tourism destinations of world-renown, offering only the best wine and gourmet experiences South Africa has to offer. We look forward to the journey and working with the team at Le Quartier Français to jointly develop a world class culinary experience’.
