It was a surprise to read that Chef Peter Tempelhoff is to open his second restaurant beyond, at Buitenverwachting in Constantia. This follows the success of his Fyn restaurant in the city centre, which he opened two years ago. He is to open a Street Food restaurant on Shortmarket Street sometime soon too.
Chef Peter has not revealed many details about beyond, as to the opening date, and where exactly it will open on the wine estate. But we do know the name of the Chef heading up the kitchen as well as that of the interior designer of the new restaurant, who also designed the FYN interior.

Corona Gratitude 🙏
#Grateful for more rain falling today, even though it wasn’t forecast; for finishing a Camps Bay Beachfront walk before the rain came along surprisingly, and it not being too cold to be outside, few exercisers being outside; for getting my writing done early this morning; for an interesting visit to the new The Slick Group central city kitchen for Deliveries and Collection, which commences tomorrow; for the cancellation of my trip to Stellenbosch, giving me time to discover some Lockdown Food gems in the City; for a fabulous lunch order I placed at Pilcrow & Cleaver, roasted tomato soup perfect for the rainy day, and an extra duck spring roll treat; for the weather clearing, allowing me another walk, through Bakoven; for a happy candlelight evening dancing 💃 to Kfm at home; and for being happy and healthy, my temperature reading being 37C at one of my stops. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
I cannot remember when an Eat Out Awards event was so exciting in its Top 10 countdown, with so many surprise restaurants on this year’s list, reflecting how more daring the Eat Out judging team has become, no longer playing it safe, which is highly commended. Since Chef Margot Janse took over in heading the Eat Out Awards judging panel in 2018, she has been ruthless in her restaurant recognition, which we already noticed when Eat Out announced its Top 30 nomination shortlist for this year, in some of the top restaurants it excluded! It took six months and R62000 to get to eat at FYN Restaurant last night, the Japanese-style fine dining restaurant which Chef Peter Tempelhoff opened in Speakers Corner in the City centre at the end of November 2018. Whilst very apprehensive, given the unpleasant pre-history, I was most pleasantly surprised at the dining experience, with the exception of our waiter, who was a major let down for the restaurant!
