Cape Town Tourism has launched an App ‘The Official Guide to Cape Town‘, aimed at first-time visitors to Cape Town, described as being like having a local in one’s pocket! The App reflects the tourism body’s strategy to be where tourists are!
The free App for IOS and Android contains locals’ hints and tips of what to see and do whilst in Cape Town, in addition to a list of tools. The maps, information about hordes of tourist attractions in our city, and practical tourist information allows one to create and store itineraries on the App. The App allows the tourists to also add their own experiences and content. One does not have to be connected to wifi to access the App.
Specific information on the App includes restaurants, accommodation, spas, shops, transport providers, outdoor adventures, and other tourism service providers.
Cape Town Tourism Marketing Executive Velma Corcoran said about the App: ‘We added a local layer to our app by including hints and tips from Cape Town residents because we are seeing that visitors want to experience a city not as a tourist but as a local. To this effect we have also included content specific to Cape Town’s neighbourhoods. Many of our travellers want to experience our city on their own – and beyond the traditional icons and landmarks. This app allows such travellers to plan their own adventures with a digital companion at their side‘.
Cape Town Tourism will continue to publish its paper copy of the ‘The Official Guide to Cape Town‘, which is available to tourists at its Visitor Centre in the city centre, and in other areas of Cape Town and Somerset West.
