The Top 12 12forward restaurants in Cape Town (but including the Winelands, more accurately) have been announced. They are available on the 12forward iPhone App, but will also be launched for Android shortly.

What is interesting is the exclusion of restaurants which were acclaimed by Eat Out in its latest restaurant awards in November 2016: The Pot Luck Club (in top 11 – 20 restaurant list); Chef’s Warehouse & Canteen on Bree Street (in top 11 – 20 restaurant list); Le Quartier Français’ The Tasting Room (in top 10 but closing at the end of April when long-standing Chef Margot Janse leaves the restaurant); The Restaurant at Waterkloof, whose Chef Greg Czarnecki was named the Top Chef in the country; Overture (in top 10); Indochine (in top 11 – 20 restaurant list); Terroir (in top 11 – 20 restaurant list); Jordan restaurant (in top 11 – 20 restaurant list); Nobu (in 11 – 20 restaurant list); Pierneef à La Motte (in top 11 –  20 restaurant list); and Rust en Vrede (in top 11 – 20 restaurant list). The Werf did not even make the Eat Out Top 20 list last year!

12forward is a digital guide published by White Guide, and uses Food writers regionally to select the top 12 ‘food-forward’ restaurants in a city. The White Guide is a top ‘Nordic restaurant guide system‘, and will eventually include restaurants in 30 cities globally. Restaurants are scored out of 100 points, of which 40 points are allocated for an evaluation of food, 20 points go to beverages, 20 points go to Service, and 20 points go to ambiance. Restaurants receive evaluations of Global Masters, Masters, Very Fine, Fine, and Other.
