Checkers Sweet Service and The Daily Bread Sour Service Awards!

CheckersThe Sweet Service Award goes to Checkers in Hermanus, and its supervisor Anita.  I called a number of outlets in Hermanus earlier this week, to check their price of HTH, and that sold by Checkers was by far the lowest.  Anita answered the phone promptly, unlike the other outlets.  Having struggled to open the difficult-to-open security closures on the buckets in the past, I asked Anita whether she could assist in getting someone to open it. I arrived ten minutes after the call,  and the HTH bucket was open, and ready and waiting for me!

The Daily Bread

The Sour Service Award goes to The Daily Bread, a coffee shop/restaurant in Voëlklip in Hermanus, for its exceptionally poor service on Tuesday this week.  I have experienced very good service in the past, and enjoyed their chocolate treats, but on Tuesday they did not have any baked treats at all, the waiter told me, but the manager quickly corrected him, and he brought three alternatives to the table.  I chose a chocolate mousse that had been bought in from a supplier, but it was in fact a cake in a cup with a little mousse topping!  The manager gave me a long story about why they did not have the Cape Times that day. The waiter took three attempts to make a dry cappuccino. Everything that went wrong that afternoon was blamed by the manager Joe on a very busy lunch, which meant that they were sold out of everything.  The waiter struggled to write down the owner Billy Alazraki’s name and number.  When I called him to tell him what I had experienced (he does not live in Hermanus, and has other restaurants in Cape Town, including Rick’s Café), Billy listened half-heartedly, and then rudely interrupted me, asking me my name.  I told him that we had never met, and that it would not make any difference to my feedback.  It was clear that he was not interested in the feedback at all, and I hung up.  It is obvious why The Daily Bread is so stale!
