Thursday 3 September 2020, Day 17 of Level 2, Day 161 of Lockdown 😷
Corona Gratitude 🙏
#Grateful for a beautiful day of sunshine 🌞🌞🌞, feeling so much more cheerful; for getting my work done this morning before Loadshedding hit us the first time at midday, an opportunity to go for a Camps Bay walk; for receiving more financial Information from a Sandak-Lewin Accounts person super efficiently today 🙏; for a quick break, sitting at a table in the sun, to enjoy a slice of the super moist Carrot Cake at Manna Epicure, seeing owner Agnes Renault briefly; for friendly service from the German Butcher across the road; for meeting Jenny Stephens for tea at the recently reopened Woolworths WCafé in the Waterfront, seeing the team of René, Tracy and their male colleague, not having seen any of them in the past five months; for some walking steps on the way to Jenny’s car; for a one-hour wonder of having a chipped tooth fixed and topped with a crown 😊; for being able to dance 💃💃💃 again, first with the lovely DJ Candice Heyns, and then at La Parada Bree Street; for bumping into Gary Peterson and Thomas at Chefs Warehouse & Canteen; for getting home just in time to eat something quickly before our next load of Loadshedding at 20h00; and for being happy and healthy, a fabulous day. 🙏💙
My Blogpost today was an update of the list of Restaurants which have reopened in the past two weeks, since alcohol sales were unbanned.
Updated list of Restaurants which have reopened since the lifting of the Alcohol ban!
I briefed a building company owner about some tiling which needs to be done at our block. What a nice man.
Hilarious were 2 messages in a Tourist Guiding Whats App Group which I joined yesterday. I introduced myself this morning, writing that I had approached Premier Alan Winde about the delay in getting the Tourist Guiding cards and badges, and his promise to look into the matter, thinking that I have done something good for others who may be waiting for these too. A smart ass German male wrote to say that this is not Germany, and that waiting for three months is nothing. And then came the 9-month Mother City joke of how long things take here. Another smart one wrote in shock to question how I could have dared to approach the Premier as a newbie Tourist Guide. 😂😂😂 I didn’t have the heart to tell him that I know Alan Winde, and that I’ve learnt to complain at the highest level possible.
Candice was DJing at Ideas Cartel in Green Point, a lovely Bar venue on the 3rd floor. I was the only one that danced there, well distanced from everyone else, with lovely music by Candice. I dropped her off in Long Street where she had her second gig, and I headed for La Parada. Gary and Thomas were sitting outside on the terrace of Chefs Warehouse, seeing them as I’d parked outside the restaurant, so they invited me to join them for a drink. It didn’t take long before a waitress asked me to leave on instruction of Chef Liam Tomlin, who did not have the balls to do so himself! It was funny to me, and made me realize that his ego is as big as ever, and that he has not learnt a thing from the Pandemic 🥵.
The music at La Parada was nothing like that which we used to dance to on First Thursday evenings. Nice to see Luke the drummer of DJ Rene. On my way home the Kfm music was fantastic, much better than the DJ’s music. I danced on the pavement with my mask on. Most people outside didn’t wear masks nor did they Socially Distance. And so sad to see how non-busy Bree Street was compared to its past busyness in the 3 years of going there.😷😱
And a most pleasant surprise: no Stage 4 Loadshedding tonight, as the City has enough capacity to take us to Stage 3, not affecting us tonight. 👏👏👏👏

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, and lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
