Wednesday 21 October 2020, Day 31 of Level 1, Day 209 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a warmer day today, at 23C, lovely to be in the sunshine; for being able to write this morning despite numerous noise disturbances caused by workmen replacing an outside aircon unit alongside my apartment for the apartment above me, with lots of other noisy workmen on site too; for a longer walk up to 4th Beach Clifton, for which I was well rewarded by Discovery; for two Discovery Gameboard plays, allowing me to buy two Pick n Pay shopping vouchers with my accumulated Discovery Miles; for writing a proposal for a prospective client, for which I am holding thumbs; for a treat at Maison J; for shopping at Hartlief, Clicks, and Pick n Pay at the Garden Centre; for being spoilt a second time in two weeks by Chef Matt of Homespun in Blouberg, who invited me to try their regular Tasting Menu with a wine pairing, sharing this spoil with Stuart Bailey; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙

My Blogpost today was a summary of the changes which have been made at The Test Kitchen and The Foodbarn, given the impact of COVID and Lockdown, including name changes.

The Test Kitchen and The Foodbarn Restaurants transformed to cope with aftermath of Covid Lockdown!

Homespun was fully booked this evening, and appears to be so almost every evening. I am so happy to hear that their Secret Supper Club is almost booked out until February. The Tasting Menu has seven courses, some fixed, and others are choices, including two palate cleansers. Five courses were paired with wines. Stuart and I ordered different dishes in the choices sections, so that we could taste each other’s dishes. It was another evening of experiencing the Magic of Chef Matt
and his team, the evening kicking off with an impressive Cocktail that was spewing ‘smoke’. The second palate cleanser was an unforgettable literal cleaning of our mouth with a buzz button made with a Szechuan flower which Sommelier Flora had brought along from Reunion, and for which Chef Matt was able to order seeds from America and have them planted and cloned locally. Another wow evening at this incredible restaurant in Blouberg. 👏👏👏❤️

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, and lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
