The Sweet Service Award goes to the restaurant group of The Greek Fisherman, Meloncino, and City Grill in the V&A Waterfront, for the unusual way General Manager Barry Nieuwhoudt and Marketing executive Tammy Smit hosted the Camps Bay Guest House Association on Monday evening. Our Restaurant Safari started at The Greek Fisherman, where 18 guest house owners and managers met for starters, which included a selection of Greek mezes such as Greek salad, fried haloumi, feta-stuffed phyllo pastry rolls, dips with pita bread, and mussels. We then went upstairs to Meloncino (which once overlooked Granger Bay, but now is above City Grill), an Italian style ‘ristorante, bar, and pizzeria Italiano‘, where we were served a selection of their pasta, pizza, and meat dishes to share. Our third destination was City Grill, a steakhouse which serves a large selection of typical South African dishes and a variety of venison, also selling biltong by J&M and 4 – 6 week matured steak. Here a selection of desserts awaited us, including crème brûlée (judged the best in the world by Boney M on their last visit), baklava, brandy pudding, Bar one cheesecake, and delicious home-made nougat ice cream, accompanied by LavAzza coffees.
The Sour Service Award goes to Nespresso, nominated by Ken Forrester: ‘Thumbs down to Nespresso Cape Town, they advertise on their website a purchase deal, R600 rebate on a machine, and when one enquires they claim the deal ended last month 2 weeks ago! Really??? 2 weeks and the website is still out of date? What does consumer protection act say in this regard? Should Nespresso honour their advertisement? In any event if they don’t its just bad PR, do they care? Apparently not’.
The WhaleTales Sweet & Sour Service Awards are presented every Friday on the WhaleTales blog. Nominations for the Sweet and Sour Service Awards can be sent to Chris von Ulmenstein at whalecot@iafrica.com.
