It’s been an exciting month of MasterChef SA Season 4, which drew to a close tonight, when the three Finalists fought it out in the MasterChef kitchen, Shawn Godfrey winning the R1 million grand prize.

This week started off with six finalists, three cooking challenges and three eliminations, and three guest chef judges, until the 90 minute Grand Finale this evening.

As a reminder of the 20 Contestants, a summary of each follows:

MasterChef SA Season 4 2022 announces 20 home cook contestants!

Episode 17 : Guest Judge Chef Kayla-Ann Osborne, Head Chef of Delaire Graff, set the contestants a Meat-Free Monday challenge, with a mystery box of vegetables, a Lindt chocolate, sunflowers, a potato, a pear, Marmite, and artichokes. The stakes were high as two contestants had to leave the kitchen. The judges judged the prepared dishes of all six contestants blind, not knowing whose dishes they were tasting. Charmaine and Tembisa had to leave the Show.

Episode 18 : A recreation Pressure Test was set to the four Contestants by Executive Chef Michael Cooke of Camphors at Vergelegen in Somerset West. It was a beautiful dish, replicating vine branches.  Andriette was tearful and wanted to give up the challenge. Sims was sent home at the end
of this challenge.

Episode 19 : This episode was made special when the family members of the three finalists were invited to attend, with tears flowing. Previous MasterChef SA Finalist Sipho Mdlankomo set a challenge of different textures and colours in a plate, reflecting our Rainbow Nation.  Shawn was praised for his dish and his presentation, despite never having prepared it before. Tarryn was beaming in happiness in preparing her dish. Andriette’s plate was colourful, reflecting her personality.  Shawn Godfrey won the plate of the day, and only has to prepare one of the two dishes of the Final.  It was a special day for the Finalists and judges.

Episode 20 Grand Finale: Finalists Andriette De la Harpe and Tarryn De Kock had to cook against each other in the first round of the 90 minute Final episode. The winner of the first round was to cook against Shawn Godfrey, who won immunity for the first round.

  •   Andriette and Tarryn had to compete in the first challenge of preparing mussels. Tarryn tried to grind  herbs, but the grinder did not work due to some moisture inside it. They had been to Wolfgat for a MasterClass in preparing this dish. Tarryn forgot to sprinkle her mussels with Masala, Chef Kobus van der Merwe being in the kitchen at the Final. Both contestants wanted to add more sugar to the custard part of their mussel dish. Andriette’s dish was judged to be the better one of the two, and it was Tarryn that was eliminated.
  • Andriette and Shawn were up against each other, now cooking for the R1 million prize money. From Instagram I can see that Shawn Godfrey has won MasterChef SA Season 4. MasterChef SA has now released its results on Facebook. The two Finalists had to create a main and a dessert reflecting their MasterChef Journey.
