The Creamery Café opens in Mouille Point!

imageGood news for Atlantic Seaboarders is that The Creamery Café has opened off Beach Road in Mouille Point, around the corner from the new Hussar Grill (ex-Theo’s). Sea Point and Mouille Point have been sparse with quality ice cream outlets.

The Creamery is dedicated in producing quality ice cream, and its owner Kate Schrire is a hard-iimageworking entrepreneur who hand-picks her suppliers from local family farms for making her quality ice creams. On its website they declare that they source ingredients that are grown and produced to are for the environment and to animals, and are in season. The Creamery describes its products as :’Honest-to-goodness, made-from-scratch, not-your-average ice cream’.

I first met Kate at a food market at The Baxter four years ago, and subsequently visited her small production facility when she opened in Observatory, to taste her ice creams. She operated from the Neighbourgoods Market and the V&A Food Market initially, and still operates the latter. Since then she has opened The Creamery Café outlets in Salt River, and has just expanded the size of her Newlands outlet, it being so popular. Mouille Point is her third branch. Like Suzelle, Kate has a Marianne (Visser) at her side as co-owner!

imageIronically the a Mouille Point branch is next to a gym, but that won’t stop ice cream lovers from popping in for a delectable ice cream fix. While the Newlands branch offers waffles, Mouille Point does not. The new branch offers three types of cookies, which are baked while one is there, and are offered as part of a package with a generous scoop of ice cream of one’s choice for R48. The cookie choice is Ooey Gooey Choc Chip, Double Peanut Butter Swirl, and Soft-baked vanilla with raspberry.

The ice cream flavours offered, including for a scoop served in a Cup or cone at R34 for one scoop and R55 for two, are: Peanut, Sweet Cream, Malted Milk, Blackberry Cheesecake, Rosetta Roastery Coffee, Sea Salt Caramel, 65% Chocolate, and Pecan Nut. A take-away fridge is filled with 500ml containers of the eight flavours above, as well as Toasted Coconut, Cookie, and Strawberry Yoghurt, at R85 each.image

I ordered the warm Ooey Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookie, a scoop of Sweet Cream ice cream, which was indulgently topped with a melted marshmallow (R8), a filling lunch treat!

One can buy the ice cream to take away or sit down. Staff is still finding their feet service wise.
