imageThe Western Cape has 49 newly-awarded Blue Flag beaches, the province with the highest number out of the 84 Blue Flag beaches, marinas, and boats announced for all of our country in 2015. Grotto Beach in Hermanus won Gold Status this year.

Other Blue Flag Beaches in our province are Clifton 4th Beach, Bikini Beach in Gordon’s Bay, Kleinmond, Hawston, and Lappiesbaai in Stilbaai, all winning Silver Status. Bronze Status Blue Flags have been awarded to Camps Bay, Silwerstroomstrand, Llandudno, Muizenberg, Mnandi, Witsand, Santos in Mossel Bay, Hartenbos, and Robberg 5  and Keurboomstrand in Plettenberg Bay.  The following Marinas also won Blue Flag accreditation: False Bay Yacht Club, The Water Club, and Harbour Island.

The Blue Flag status is an international award given to beaches meeting 33 stringent standards of safety, amenities, cleanliness, and environmental care. Blue Flag status promotes Tourism, boosts the economy, and promotes job creation in the Western Cape.  But it also reflects the care that is taken for the environment and the pride in our province’s beautiful beaches!
