Bastille Festival Sweet Service and Stellenbosch Municipality Sour Service Awards!

Bastille Marquee inside Whale CottageThe Sweet Service Award goes to the Franschhoek Wine Valley and DnA Event Management, for a superb organisation of the Bastille Festival two weekends ago.  The perfect weather, the new massive marquee, and new location next to the Huguenot Monument met with great acclaim from visitors as well as participating visitors, and even the shop owners and restaurateurs on the main road were happy, despite their initial reservations about the marquee moving out of the centre of the village.  The only complaint from some visitors was the many drunk revellers crossing the main road without concern for motorists.   A heavy presence of Stellenbosch Traffic police on Saturday helped to keep some of the problems under control.

Stellenbosch MunicipalityThe Sour Service Award goes to the Stellenbosch Municipality, which has been laying new water pipes for the past 18 months or so, having to open almost every street, and not retarring the section of the roads underneath which they replaced the pipes.  Worst hit is Dirkie Uys Street towards Domaine des Anges Estate, with the tar removed completely from sections of the road, and massive potholes beyond it.  Even Reservoir Road has one quarter of the tar removed, dangerous for driving as one cannot drive in the affected lane.

The WhaleTales Sweet & Sour Service Awards are presented every Friday on the WhaleTales blog.  Nominations for the Sweet and Sour Service Awards can be sent to Chris von Ulmenstein at  whalecot@iafrica.com.   Past winners of the Sweet and Sour Service Awards can be read on the Friday posts of this blog, and in the WhaleTales newsletters on the www.whalecottage.com website.
