* Good news for our local tourism is the updated forecast of the economic growth of the UK, now at 3,2%, for 2014, the highest growth of all developed countries! The UK was once the most important tourism source for Cape Town.
* five hundred at The Saxon is the only South African restaurant to be included in Huffington Post‘s international list of Best New Chef”s Tables, praised for its six course Tasting Menu, each course prepared by Chef David Higgs paired with Ruinart champagne. Cost is R4900.

* Wesgro has released a video to promote Cape Town and the Western Cape, with a host of activities locals and visitors can enjoy, including Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, Two Oceans Aquarium, Camps Bay, cycling in the forest, surfing, abseiling, playing golf, kayaking, horseriding, the Cango Caves, wine and food pairing at Creation, eating at La Pentola in Hermanus, braaing, taking the Franschhoek Wine Tram, visiting La Motte, eating oysters, visiting an ostrich farm, shark cage diving, seeing the Spring flowers, Kirstenbosch, the red Cape Town City Sightseeing bus, Robben Island, paragliding, Blouberg Strand, Bushman’s paintings, Matjiesfontein, playing polo, Bo-Kaap, the Whale Crier, Knysna Elephant Park, and bungie jumping. * McGregor is hosting it second Poetry Festival from 24 – 26 October, ‘celebrating life through the written word‘. Readings, talks, workshops, local wines, and good food will be part of the Festival. * McCain Foods is seeking the #McCain Trendsetter in its ‘Tribute to Good Taste’ competition, open to local student and professional chefs. Prizes of R10000 for best student chef and R15000 for best professional chef are available, for a main course dish featuring McCain’s chip and one of their vegetables, and reflecting ‘the upcoming global trend in the foodservice industry’. It should also reflect modern food fashion and flair, menu innovation, nutrition, preparation convenience, taste, and visual appeal. Four finalists per category will participate in a cook-off.
