On Monday restaurants were allowed to reopen for Sit-Down Service, after having only been allowed to offer a Food Delivery service from May, and a Food and Alcohol Delivery and Collection Service from June onwards.

The Sweet Service Award goes to Ben Weí Asian fusion sushi restaurant in Wembley Square, which spoilt my guest Stephanie Neubauer on her birthday. I had met Stephanie and her partner Jörg an hour before at the Gernan Embassy, and overheard their sad tale about a mugging in Woodstock they were subjected to, losing their valuables and passports. I took them with me, to fetch a spare cellphone at my home, to help them find an ATM to draw cash from an extra credit card they had, and spontaneously invited them to a birthday lunch at Ben Wei. I mentioned this to the waiter when I ordered a glass of bubbly for Stephanie, and the kitchen brought out a plate of salmon roses for the birthday girl. It was a lovely touch to make the couple feel much better after a traumatic 24 hours.

The Sweet Service Award goes to Dermalogica, and its Head Office Manager Marja Basson, who did an amazing service recovery to make good the dreadful service I experienced at its Wembley Square branch. I received a text message, inviting me to test a new eye treatment cream, with options of a branch and a time that suited me. My appointment time and date was confirmed. I arrived slightly early, was told to take a seat (at the counter) and was offered a glass of water. Therapist Salma was busy with a client in an open space close to me, and when it was 12h20 she carried on without apology to me, and appeared very slow in taking payment from the client.
