Meet Chef Kerry Kilpin of Tryn/Bistro 1682 at Steenberg: 2021 Top 10 Woman Chef

 

Kerry Kilpin is the Executive Chef at Steenberg, in charge of both Tryn and Bistro 1682 restaurants on the wine estate. She was selected as one of the 2021 Cape’s Top 10 Women Chefs, and receives a bottle of Adhara Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Heading up one restaurant is a challenge in itself, but heading up two restaurants and that during a pandemic which affected the restaurant industry the most through its constantly changing Lockdown regulations regarding alcohol sales, operating hours, and restaurant capacity, reflects Chef Kerry’s strength as a manager as well as a chef.

Catharina’s at Steenberg transformed, renamed, modernised into a younger and lighter Tryn Restaurant, offers ethically sourced fish and locally sourced ingredients!

Last week I joined Steenberg Public Relations Consultant Gudrun Clark for lunch at the recently opened Tryn restaurant, in the transformed space that was the home of Catharina’s at Steenberg for twenty years. Tryn was the nickname of founder owner Catharina Ras. Its Kitchen is now headed up by Chef Kerry Kilpin, who has been in charge of Bistro Sixteen82, also at Steenberg, for the past five years. Catharina’s has been transformed, renamed, and modernised, to bring her into the 21st century. Mystery new Steenberg Lady R MCC to be launched!

image Steenberg is to launch a new ‘exclusive special occasion’ Lady R MCC under mystery conditions!

What has been revealed is the name of the new MCC, Lady R, in honour of Catharina Ras, the feisty founder of the Steenberg farm. It is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.  It has been left on the lees for five years, one year for each of Catharina Ras’ husbands! Only 250 Continue reading →
