Breaking News: Vivienne Morrisby takes over ownership of Cheyne’s, Lucky Bao, Mexicola Locale, and Ding Dong!

 

Vivienne Morrisby, wife of Chef Cheyne Morrisby, has taken over the ownership of the family restaurants: Cheyne’s, Lucky Bao and Mexicola Locale in Hout Bay, and Ding Dong on Shortmarket Street in the city centre.  Ding Dong was previously in De Waterkant, and will re-open opposite The House of Machines in the pedestrian section of Shortmarket Street in June.

Himitisu at the Camps Bay Retreat closed down at the beginning of this month, and all other restaurants owned by the family in De Waterkant and in the Egg in Cavendish have been closed down. Continue reading →

The secret is lifted: Himitsu closes down at Camps Bay Retreat after tumultuous year!

 

Himitsu, meaning secret in Japanese, opened quietly and secretly at the five star Camps Bay Retreat Boutique Hotel just over a year ago, Chef Cheyne Morrisby taking over all the Food & Beverage requirements for the guests of the hotel, a first for Morrisby, who by then already had a number of restaurants in Hout Bay and in De Waterkant.

After an explosive Sour Service Award I awarded to Himitsu Restaurant for a shocking breakfast experienced there in January, and it coming to light that Morrisby had not been to the Camps Bay restaurant in four months, Morrisby announced a week ago that he has closed down Himitsu at the Camps Bay Retreat. May Restaurant Update: More restaurants opening and closing in Cape Town and Winelands!

 

 

New restaurants are still opening, or planning to open in Cape Town and the Winelands, despite it being on the eve of Winter.

The biggest planned opening is that by Chef Liam Tomlin, who will open The Bailey, a three storey Brasserie, Bakery, and two Bars across the road from Heritage Square.  His opening is running late. He has closed down his Chefs Warehouse on Bree Street. Restaurant Artizian will open on Bree Street in July. Chef Peter Tempelhoff is said to open a Japanese Street Food restaurant on the ground floor of Speakers Corner, the building in which FYN operates.
