Chef Bertus Basson is ā€˜In die Sop: Restaurant Evolusieā€™, a restaurant turn-around TV series, including that of controversial journalist Jacques Pauw!

 

I cannot resist writing a story about Chef Bertus Bassonā€™s latest TV series, ā€˜In die Sop: Restaurant Evolusieā€™ on kykNet, a Gordon Ramsay-style ā€˜Kitchen Nightmaresā€™ reality TV series in which restaurants are given 72 hours in which to be transformed. Ā It is aired on Wednesdays on KykNet at 20h00, the first episode airing last week. The title of the series ā€˜In die Sopā€™ refers to restaurants being in trouble.

The irony is that Basson himself has been no expert in restaurant design when one considers his ā€˜crapā€™ Spek & Bone off Dorp Street (one of the most widely read reviews on my Blog), and De Vrije Burger on Plein Street, both in Stellenbosch. Surprisingly, Basson admits to his restaurant faults: ā€˜Iā€™ve achieved great success, but Iā€™ve also made a lot of mistakes and learned lessons that have cost me dearly. #Grateful for another summer day forecast at 24C which became a 28C one; for a very relaxed day, starting off with a tea and croissant treat with Vivian Warby at Firefly, being addressed by Daniella Kisten of Minted Ginger, supplier of Chef uniforms and aprons from a neighbouring table, leading to an interesting restaurant catch-up, promising each other a tea date; for a beautiful turquoise blue ocean today, very calm and almost flat; for hearing the ā€˜Love my Lifeā€™ song by Robbie Williams for the first time, with amazing words, a song of self-affirmation, including ā€˜I am Freeā€™, something Iā€™ve never expressed gratitude for before, #thankyou Linda Gotlieb šŸŒ¹; for being able to see The Funeral of Prince Philip at 4 pm our time, finding it by chance via a German TV channel, so moving, despite its small size, with its ending of William, Harry, and Kate walking together in leaving the Chapel ā¤ļø; for a power walk up the 100 Houghton Steps, gaining 300 points, bringing me closer to my goal of points to achieve by the end of this month; for the amazing surprise of there being almost no litter, having come armed with a garbage bag; for my Bakoven sunset pic of earlier this week being posted by Daily Maverick today (Photograph above); and for being happy, healthy, and free. šŸ™šŸ’™ Continue reading →

#Grateful for a relaxed day, catching up on work; for a grey overcast day, with a little rain this afternoon, and more expected overnight, with a strong Black South Easter blowing; for going for a walk to Clifton and back during Loadshedding this afternoon, struggling to walk against the wind on my way back; for picking up a copy of the Daily Maverick 168 at Pick n Pay; and for being happy and healthy. šŸ™šŸ’™ Continue reading →
