Sunday 23 August 2020, Day 6 of Level 2, Day 150 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a laidback day, doing a lot of Social Media catching up from the comfort of my bed this morning 😱; for a sunny day, even though not as warm as yesterday and the day before, because of a light cloud cover; for a walk to Fourth Beach Clifton, happy that there was minimal litter today and no torn garbage bags; for a spoil from the Maison J staff when I walked past, offering me some cinnamon doughnuts to take home, to be shared tomorrow; for another day in this fabulous spoiling week; for a lovely milestone birthday celebration dinner for Katie Friedman at Pilcrow & Cleaver, Chef Judi Fourie being hands-on in looking after us for our Sit-Down dinner; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Friday 21 August 2020, Day 4 of Level 2, Day 148 of Lockdown.😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a lucky spoilt day today, in fact an extension of a fabulous spoil week ❤️❤️❤️; for a beautiful sunny day, our warmest day so far this week at 20C, being able to wear shorts ; for being spared Loadshedding today, but having done all my writing early this morning to accommodate it, which gave me twice the morning time to do other admin tasks as well 🙏; for a quick walk to Bakoven, being short of time, a 2000 step walk compared to the 4000 step Camps Bay one; for a spoil afternoon, starting at Mai Thai Spa in De Waterkant, a wonderful combination facial-massage, with fabulous head and hand massages with strong pressure ❤️; for Krisjan Rossouw from the next door Deepest Darkest Art Gallery waiting for me with a bottle of Bottega Prosecco, taking me next door to show me his photographic portrait art in his gallery, and sharing house purchase disasters; for a quick shop at Spar down the road, not having been there in ages; for dropping in at Pilcrow & Cleaver In Parliament Street to bring owner and Chef Judi Fourie a bottle of ADHARA extra virgin olive oil for Women’s Month, having a glass of silky smooth Doolhof Pinotage, and chatting up a storm with a lawyer sitting there too whilst waiting for my delicious Seafood dinner, which Judi comped 🙏 #thankyou; for dancing to Kfm to get back to my normal step goal; for the good news that my Hermanus house sale deal is watertight now, and that I hand it over to the purchaser in ten days 👏👏👏; for a victory in our block, having two maintenance jobs I requested approved; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

A Women’s Day salute to Women Restaurant Owners and Top Chefs in Cape Town and the Winelands, sadly only a handful!

Since having created a Facebook Group for Food Delivery and Collection during Lockdown, I have become aware of women restaurant owners, something I had never written about or even thought about, only being aware of female chefs in our part of the world. For Women’s Day I planned this article, to profile the female restaurant owners in Cape Town and the Winelands, sadly only finding a small handful of 12.

I have also compiled a list of the Top 13 women Head/Executive Chefs in Cape Town and the Winelands.

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for all the glorious rain that has fallen since last night, with a happy garden, and it not being too chilly; for two walking gaps in between the rain, allowing me a Camps Bay walk and a Woolies shop on the way at lunchtime, and an afternoon one in Bakoven with slight drizzle; for the amazing kindness of receiving a bunch of roses from Woolies Manager Gary Arendse for Women’s Day, so spoilt with this branch so close by; for being so inspired by all the stories of the women restaurant owners in the Cape, posted here as well as in the Facebook Group; for surviving a dreadful attack in a Camps Bay Facebook Group; for a rainy day afternoon snooze; for dancing the balance of my steps to Kfm; for a Discovery Cashback for my healthy Woolies food purchases; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
