Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a laidback day, doing a lot of Social Media catching up from the comfort of my bed this morning 😱; for a sunny day, even though not as warm as yesterday and the day before, because of a light cloud cover; for a walk to Fourth Beach Clifton, happy that there was minimal litter today and no torn garbage bags; for a spoil from the Maison J staff when I walked past, offering me some cinnamon doughnuts to take home, to be shared tomorrow; for another day in this fabulous spoiling week; for a lovely milestone birthday celebration dinner for Katie Friedman at Pilcrow & Cleaver, Chef Judi Fourie being hands-on in looking after us for our Sit-Down dinner; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙

In organizing the dinner for Katie, the difficulty in finding restaurants which are open on Sunday evenings was highlighted. I gave Katie three choices, and she chose Pilcrow & Cleaver. Chef Judi baked a special Valrhona birthday cake for Katie, with a beautiful lilac silver icing. Nothing was too much trouble for her, opening a Syrah and a Pinot Noir for me to chose one of them to drink. Katie ordered some small plate dishes, while I ate the delicious Sunday roast of lamb, vegetables, and sauces. Mmmmm. #Thankyou Chef Judi Fourie

What a fabulous week this has been ❤️

I wrote to my friend Alain Barrios Chávez from Havana, asking about the hurricane which I had read about. He was the manager of the Havana BnB I stayed at for almost a month, and a huge FC Bayern fan. This is what he wrote back, Google Translated from Spanish:

‘Yes, very happy with the victory of FC Bayern. The hurricane is going to pass through Havana tomorrow morning they say, a lot of rain is expected. The virus here in Havana is getting worse and worse, it is not known how long it will be. We still do not have transportation so that people do not leave Havana, my family is in good health, which is the main thing, I started a week ago to work in construction and I ride a bicycle, it is hard work but there is no more for now .How are you?’

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, and lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
