
The Sweet Service Award goes to Carrol Boyes, for its extreme generosity in delivering to my home a collection of their Carrol Boyes products as a Christmas gift. I had only got to know the company and some of its executives this year when it launched its wonderful chocolate boxes. They are a kind, friendly, and approachable company.

The Sweet Service Award goes to Shimansky Jewellers in Green Point, and its Carmen Wing, for their good cappuccino making skill, for offering to clean all my rings when I attended a tasting of the new Benguela Cove Cuvee 58, and for the use of the hotspot WiFi of one of her colleagues, as the jewellers guest and staff WiFi was not working.
After a two week renovation period, the first branch of The Deli Coffee Co has opened, on Kloof Street, home to the former Melissa’s, ironically the first outlet which Melissa van Hoogstraten opened twenty years ago. Melissa’s has closed down all its company-owned stores, while most franchise stores have changed their names, and are continuing to operate, the company having gone into liquidation.
Every winter is a tough time for the restaurant industry. With the dip in Tourism due to the water shortage, and the early heavy winter rains, the restaurants in Cape Town and the Winelands are feeling the pinch, and many have closed down, even some on the iconic restaurant Bree Street, as well as in the Waterfront!
