Cape’s Top 10 Women Chefs of 2021 announced on Women’s Day!

 

Last week we announced that we were seeking nominations for the Cape’s Top 10 Women Chefs, the prize of a bottle of ADHARA Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil going to each of our top chefs, kindly sponsored by Venishree Mayer, co-owner and olive oil producer of Fraaigelegen Farm in Tulbagh.

We are grateful for the nominations that we have received. We congratulate the Top 10 Women Chefs in the Cape.

Corona Virus Lockdown: SA moves to level 4, hundreds of restaurants open to offer home food delivery; over 100 in greater Cape Town area

 

Worker’s Day Friday 1 May today is being overshadowed by the gracious allowance from our Government for citizens to leave their homes from 6h00 – 9h00, for exercise within a 5 km radius of one’s home. Equally exciting is the allowance in our Level 4 Lockdown commencing today that restaurants may deliver foods to citizens’ homes. I have compiled a list exceeding 120 restaurants which will be delivering in Cape Town, the Winelands, and outlying areas, from today onwards. Continue reading →

Eat Out Awards 2019 full of drama and surprises, new awards, La Colombe overtakes The Test Kitchen for the first time as new number one restaurant in South Africa!

I cannot remember when an Eat Out Awards event was so exciting in its Top 10 countdown, with so many surprise restaurants on this year’s list, reflecting how more daring the Eat Out judging team has become, no longer playing it safe, which is highly commended. Since Chef Margot Janse took over in heading the Eat Out Awards judging panel in 2018, she has been ruthless in her restaurant recognition, which we already noticed when Eat Out announced its Top 30 nomination shortlist for this year, in some of the top restaurants it excluded! ‘Kook en Geniet’-inspired lunch at the Langtafel in Langebaan served good cooking and enjoyment, paired with Cederberg wines!

On Sunday I attended a Langtafel lunch in Langebaan, invited by The Good Life food truck owner Adele Maartens, at the Duinhuis home of Isabella Niehaus, food stylist and food and beverage market organizer. She organizes a Langtafel lunch once a month, and on Sunday the lunch was paired with Cederberg wines and beers.  Continue reading →
