Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a fabulous day, not only the 22 C sunny day, but also relaxed, getting all my work done; for a good night’s sleep, still not able to believe how quiet it is in our building 💙; for buying a stockpile of cat food, given the shortage of Whiskas, having to drive to Pick n Pay down the road, doing a monthly shop which I haven’t done in years, not doing it again in a hurry, with errors on their specials, it taking longer to do the refund than to take my payment 😱; for a walk to Bakoven; Continue reading →

Noma new 2021 Top World’s 50 Best Restaurant; Wolfgat new SA and Africa restaurant representative !

 

This afternoon the 2021 World’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S. Pellegrino and Aqua Panna, were celebrated in Antwerp, the first time since 2019.  Noma in Copenhagen was announced as the number 1 restaurant in the world.

South Africa remains on the World’s 50 Best Restaurant List, despite The Test Kitchen having closed down last week. It represented our country on this List over the past few years. Wolfgat crept into the list at number 50 today, also winning Best Restaurant in Africa.

Restaurant KleinJAN and Wolfgat on 2021 Conde Naste Traveller World’s Most Beautiful Restaurant List!

 

Restaurant Klein JAN is going from strength to strength, which is no surprise, given that it is owned by Restaurateur and Chef Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen.  What is a surprise is that it is in the Kalahari Desert on Tswalu Private Game Reserve, miles away from anywhere.

Now Restaurant Klein JAN has received a new accolade, not for its cooking but for its beauty, being one of two South African restaurants making the 2021 Conde Nast Traveller Most Beautiful Restaurants in the World List, out of 39 restaurants in total, and accompanied by Wolfgat in Paternoster. Restaurant Review: Kjolle puts Peruvian heritage fruit and vegetables on the table, with a modern twist!

 

While one might say that eating at Kjolle restaurant is second best to eating at its sister restaurant Central (Sixth Best on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants List) in Lima in Peru, I am very grateful that I did, and that I did so the day before my lunch at Central, it giving me a first taste of the philosophy of both the restaurants, owned by husband and wife team of Chefs Virgilio Martinez and Pia León, and in helping me to deal with some of the complexity of the Central Tasting Menu.
