UK removes South Africa from its Red List, with 46 other countries, opens the door to SA Tourism

The best news in 18 months of the Corona Lockdown broke today, with the UK announcing that it will remove South Africa and 46 other countries from its Red List as of Monday 11 October. Only seven countries will remain on the UK Red List on Monday: Columbia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela.

Vaccinated Visitors may enter the UK on the same conditions as those of UK residents, but may not have travelled in a Red List country in the ten days before arriving in the UK.  South Africa has been on the Red List since December 2020.

A further positive step is that South Africans’ proof of vaccination will be accepted by the UK.   South African travellers will have to show the results of a Covid Test. No hotel quarantine will be required from Monday onwards, a costly affair for travellers to the UK, having to stay in  prescribed quarantine hotels at a cost of close to R50000.

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 5 of Level 1, 5 October 2021

Tuesday 5 October 2021, Day 5 of Level 1 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a fabulous day, not only the 22 C sunny day, but also relaxed, getting all my work done; for a good night’s sleep, still not able to believe how quiet it is in our building 💙; for buying a stockpile of cat food, given the shortage of Whiskas, having to drive to Pick n Pay down the road, doing a monthly shop which I haven’t done in years, not doing it again in a hurry, with errors on their specials, it taking longer to do the refund than to take my payment 😱; for a walk to Bakoven; Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 14, 9 April 2020.

Thursday 9 April 2020, 25 th day of SA Corona Virus, Day 14 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful that we are two-thirds through Round 1 of Lockdown, and that this week seems to have gone faster than the first week; that I managed to get fabulous baby spinach at Woolworths Camps Bay, after running around for it elsewhere yesterday; for another fabulous sunny day, but now the clouds are moving in, the temperature dropping for a partially wet Easter weekend to come; for being able to walk to the shops, and seeing a new family of Egyptian Geese chicks at ‘my’ stream at the Tidal Pool; for feeling peaceful; for dancing to lovely music on Kfm🎶; for my highest step count since Lockdown 👣; and for feeling happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Communication Circus in finding information about regulations for foreign Tourists not quarantining in South Africa!

I have tried to enquire about an Argentinian couple which could not return to its home country when our Lockdown was announced at short notice, living in the block of flats I live in, arriving as tourists two days before Lockdown (25 March). They did not go into quarantine as soon as they arrived in the building, but rather went Sightseeing and Shopping on the two days prior to the Lockdown. They also moved apartments inside our block during Lockdown. I contacted more than ten COVID-19 and other government-related agencies, and reached a dead-end, with no one knowing how to do deal with this couple. Continue reading →
