Chefs Warehouse on Bree Street closes down, no presence in Heritage Square anymore!

 

After 8 years of opening Chefs Warehouse & Canteen on Bree Street, the second venue of Chef Liam Tomlin’s first Cape Town restaurant, and despite undergoing a name change more recently, the Tapas restaurant closed down yesterday.

The closure of Chefs Warehouse & Canteen Winebar & Pinchos brings to an end the presence of Chef Liam’s businesses in Heritage Square, having walked away from Local, his Lebanese restaurant Mazza, and La Cantina earlier this year. Continue reading →

Corona Lockdown Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a beautiful day, hot at 29C with no wind; for ticking off another 2022 goal in passing my eye test by hook and by crook at the Gallows Hill Traffic Department in Green Point, taking 90 minutes, 30 minutes of which the eye test department was offline; for celebrating my temporary license with a lovely lunch at Cucina at the Goodman Gallery, a first visit, the Goodman Gallery preparing for a new exhibition, so I only saw one artwork already hung; for getting my client posting Continue reading →

World’s 50 Best excludes Russian Restaurants and Bars from its 2022 Awards Lists!

 

The anti-Russian sentiment has spread around the USA and Europe in particular, and now is affecting the restaurant industry, with American chain food outlets such as McDonalds stopping trading in Russia, Burger King being an exception, it continuing to trade.

It was a surprise nevertheless when the World’s 50 Best compilers of Best Restaurants and Best Bars in the World announced that it would exclude Russian Restaurants and Bars from their 2022 evaluations. No other international restaurant lists have followed suit to date.

The Bailey new Bakery, Brasserie, and Bars on Bree Street, to be opened by Chef Liam Tomlin!

 

Now that Chef Liam Tomlin’s planned Russian restaurant in Moscow is unlikely to see the light of day for some time to come, he is putting all his energy into the renovations of an historic three-storey Tintswalo-owned building across the road from his first-ever Chefs Warehouse in Heritage Square, now called Pinchos.

It is said that Chef Liam is planning to leave or close Pinchos, the branch just not as successful in attracting customers as the Chefs Warehouses at Beau Constantia, Tintswalo, and Franschhoek. Tomlin has recently walked away from his Mazza and Local establishments in the former HQ, also located in Heritage Square.
