The anti-Russian sentiment has spread around the USA and Europe in particular, and now is affecting the restaurant industry, with American chain food outlets such as McDonalds stopping trading in Russia, Burger King being an exception, it continuing to trade.

It was a surprise nevertheless when the World’s 50 Best compilers of Best Restaurants and Best Bars in the World announced that it would exclude Russian Restaurants and Bars from their 2022 evaluations. No other international restaurant lists have followed suit to date.

In 2021, the World’s Best included Russian White Rabbit (25th Best) and Twins Garden (30th Best) in its Top Restaurants List, and El Copitas (8th Best) in its Top Bars List.

The media statement from the World’s 50 Best was as follows:

‘We can confirm that there will be no Russian establishments included in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list or The World’s 50 Best Bars 2022 list. We do not hold any restaurants or bars individually responsible for the actions of their government and we acknowledge all those in Russia who have bravely denounced the actions of their leaders. Our thoughts continue to be with the people of Ukraine at this time.
