Saturday 5 September 2020, Day 19 of Level 2, Day 163 of Lockdown đŸ˜·

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a loooong sleep, over 8 hours long; for only one Loadshedding today, already done this morning, sleeping through the first half, and then walking the second half of it; for having a strawberry milkshake at the brand new Firefly CafĂ©, as they currently only stock Rooibos Tea, so I connected them to Dilmah (my favorite) via Instagram; for a second walk, through Bakoven; for a light drizzle most of the day, not stopping me from going outside; for not being sent to bed in the dark by Eskom at 20h00, as has happened twice in the past three days; for completing my steps of the day to Kfm; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Friday 1 May 2020, Day 1 of Lockdown Level 4, after 35 days at Level 5 đŸ˜·

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a spectacular day all round, with a misty start, and turning out warm; for feeling on top of the world, my best day since the start of Lockdown ❀; for such a wonderful exercise morning, fresh air, lovely sea smell as I left the house, and smelling coffee on the walk, loving the energy of everyone around me, walking, running, and cycling, feeling really good after 8000 steps at a time of day which was a first one for walking for me; for picking up litter along the way; for meeting friends along the way, including Ashleigh Fleming and her brood, Thomas BauerkĂ€mper and Haakon, Justin Paul Jansen, Andrew Cairns, and seeing the staff of Maison J, a happy reunion again, what a surprise to see them open, which I celebrated with an orange juice and a croissant đŸ„â€ïž; for a long chat with Jenny Stephens; for an inspiring video by ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ author Elizabeth Gilbert about running away from oneself, I recognizing myself in her wise words (video posted on my page)❀; for a shopping walk this afternoon, definitely much calmer than this morning; for the delivery of my dinner by Essentials by Ryan Cole, to celebrate more of this special day, being the first day of Level 4, May Day, Exercise Day, and first Home Food Delivery Day; for getting a cash back of over R400 from Discovery Vitality for my healthy food purchases at Woolies; for a promise of a refund from Auto & General for a hidden charge taken by them, called Expo-sure, for the past 5 years đŸ„”, and for being happy and healthy on a day that felt liked Christmas. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus Lockdown: Food Offering and Delivery very tightly controlled, yet some chefs and restaurants have found ways to do it!

I have written previously how the restaurant industry is suffering tremendously, both in being able to pay its bills due to lack of cash flow, and the responsibility it has to keep paying staff, receiving UIF payments for staff appearing to be a difficult process, understandable as every employer in the country is trying to keep head above water and therefore submitting claims. From wanting to jump in to prepare meals to deliver, and thereby keep some staff employed and some cash flowing, most restaurant were disappointed to discover that this was against the Lockdown Law.  Yet a handful of chefs and food suppliers have managed to receive an Essential Service certificate, and are preparing food offerings, which they are delivering to clients’ homes or offering on a collection basis. Licensed alcohol-selling restaurants appear to be experiencing the biggest problems when it comes to food delivery permission, even though they do not offer alcohol delivery. Continue reading →
