Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a successful day; for getting up early to finish all my work so that I could squeeze in a power walk up 100 Houghton Steps, and coming down my secret Bakoven lanes with a total of 100 steps, being protected against the very strong Southeaster, receiving 300 Discovery points; for my Dinkel poppyseed rolls being ready for me; for an interesting meeting at Origin Roasting, drinking a lovely Nigiro Earl Grey Bloom tea; for a good Utopia Status meeting with Dilmah Earl Grey tea, crowned by a rainbow; for a quick pop in at Grand Pavilion, but the owner wasn’t there; for a cosy soup-in-bed evening; for Kfm playing great music to finish my steps for today; and for being happy, healthy and free. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

40th edition of Platter’s by Diners Club International 2020 South African Wine Guide launched, with a record of 125 5-star wines!

On Friday evening I attended the launch of the 40th edition of the Diners Club International 2020 South African Wine Guide, at the Table Bay Hotel in the Waterfront, an event that is pretty much the same in format every year, yet was different this year, in the interest of making the event shorter.   

More than 8000 wines from more than 900 producers were rated for the 2020 Platter’s Wine Guide edition. Of the 125 5-star wines awarded, 26 went to Chenin Blanc brands, 18 to Shiraz/Syrah, and 11 to Chardonnay brands.

*   Growth in South Africa’s tourism industry is affected negatively by reduced government expenditure, slow visa approvals, crime perceptions, infrastructural restrictions, language barriers, and poor domestic tourism, said SA Tourism CEO Thulani Nzima at the South African Travel and Tourism Summit.

*   A massive storm has affected air, train and ferry travel in the United Kingdom.  More than 130 flights have been cancelled at Heathrow alone.

*   A Climate Experience Centre is to be built in the V&A Waterfront next year, for usage from 2015, Princess Astrid of Belgium announced in Cape Town on Friday.   It will be the first centre of its kind in the world, allowing visitors to learn about the effect of climate change via virtual reality technology.   The royal party also visited Almenkerk Wine Estate in Elgin last week.
