Sunday 4 October 2020, Day 14 of Level 1, Day 192 of Lockdown. đŸ˜·

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a wonderful day all round, the weather superb, my first Lockdown brunch, and my first dancing at La Parada Constantia Nek since the beginning of Lockdown; for the City of Cape Town coming to collect the broken glass this morning just as I went for a walk, happy that I could express my thanks to the staff personally; for fetching croissants from Maison J, having pre-ordered them; for feeling far safer in Camps Bay today, with 10 Law Enforcement Officers, two traffic police cars, and a Metro Police car proactively present in Camps Bay; for a wonderful Heritage Brunch at my home, lasting six hours, the second longest one ever; for the happiness of going back to La Parada Constantia Nek, seeing so many people from the pre-Lockdown dance nights there, yet it was so different, with minimal dance space, but the highlight was The Kiffness playing; for surviving a taxi overtaking me in a curve of the road and scraping my car on my way home, but not seeing any damage to my car (yet); and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

I had planned to use Uber, but had to get the roaming switched off first, and had experienced the problem of where the Uber pick-up point is at an airport when calling Uber in Nice, so was open to be sold the taxi service. I asked whether the service would equal the Uber rate, and he confidently said that he could offer the service for R250, usually charged at R300 or R350! This demonstrates the power Uber has on the taxi industry! Continue reading →

Uber Sweet Service and Cinema Nouveau Sour Service Awards!

Uber ice creamThe Sweet Service Award goes to Uber, for its innovative international launch (in 130 countries) of #UberIceCream 2014 tomorrow, to ‘turn the other cheek to the winter chill’ in South Africa, and to position Uber as much more than an alternative taxi service.  Packages of tubs of frozen yoghurt, toppings, Uber swag scarves, and delivery tomorrow between  11h00 – 17h00 are available to order on the Uber app at R120 in Cape Town, and R165 in Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Johannesburg.  To launch the campaign in South Africa, it is linked locally to Nelson Mandela Day today.  Sick children at the Johannesburg General Hospital will be spoilt with an ice cream delivery this weekend.  The company will also bring children from the Alex AIDS Project in Johannesburg to a Filo Yoghurt outlet, and to Myög for children from the Uluntu Centre in Cape Town, so that they can make up their favourite frozen yoghurt treats.
