The secret is lifted: Himitsu closes down at Camps Bay Retreat after tumultuous year!

Himitsu, meaning secret in Japanese, opened quietly and secretly at the five star Camps Bay Retreat Boutique Hotel just over a year ago, Chef Cheyne Morrisby taking over all the Food & Beverage requirements for the guests of the hotel, a first for Morrisby, who by then already had a number of restaurants in Hout Bay and in De Waterkant.

After an explosive Sour Service Award I awarded to Himitsu Restaurant for a shocking breakfast experienced there in January, and it coming to light that Morrisby had not been to the Camps Bay restaurant in four months, Morrisby announced a week ago that he has closed down Himitsu at the Camps Bay Retreat. Thursday 6 January 2022, Day 98 of Level 1, birthday of Alex von Ulmenstein and Mullerie Taljaard 🌹🌹

Corona Lockdown Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a beautiful 27 C degree day, making Camps Bay very busy, with a very strong late afternoon South Easter, meaning it will be even warmer tomorrow; for a birthday call to my Alex, starting to plan his visit to Cape Town in 15 days ❤️; for preparing for my client meetings this afternoon; for a successful visit to the Civic Center, to renew my car license, but annoyed that one has to enter from the back of the building without any signage, and answer numerous questions just to be allowed in, for being able to jump the queue of persons who had waited for 90 minutes into the red Continue reading →

Monday 21 December 2020, Day 92 of Level 1, Day 271 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a sunny day, feeling cooler than 26C due to it being windy from this morning onwards; for getting my writing done in a shorter time than normal; for spreading the dishwashing of yesterday throughout the day; for collecting sandwiches and coldrinks from The Bay Hotel for the Christmas function which was held for the Camps Bay Community Stewards (car guards and my cleaners), borrowing a Pick n Pay trolley to transport them to the SAPS parking area; for trying out the new Crème de la Crème Gourmet Dessert outlet in Camps Bay, which has just opened; for collecting a plaque from Pagliari engravers in town for my client, produced efficiently and just in time before their Festive Season closing tomorrow, and dropping it off; for a spontaneous drop-in at Dinkel Bakery, which still had some poppyseed rolls for me; for both lanes of Geneva Drive having reopened  in Camps Bay; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful ‘Spring’ Day, wearing shorts and a sleeveless top, dressed for a hard day’s work; for the wonderful satisfaction of spending five hours in cleaning up the Camps Bay Beachfront, removing kelp and beach sand, with the help of local resident Haakon and a number of homeless persons, getting Camps Bay back into shape again after the winter storm; for Haakon’s generosity in buying coffee and croissants at Maison J, the homeless persons saying it felt as if they had come to Camps Bay on ‘holiday’, to be spoilt so ❤️❤️❤️; for the loan of a broom and spade from The Bay Hotel, and a broom from Vida é Caffe; for no Loadshedding;  and for feeling happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
