‘Dark Kitchen’ Restaurant trend grows, enhanced by Corona Lockdown, operating in Cape Town too!

I first heard about ‘Dark Kitchens’ when I met Ian Halfon, CEO of Slick Restaurant Group, last week, his company having opened Cape Town’s newest Dark Kitchen on New Church Street in the City centre. Also known as ‘virtual kitchens’, ‘ghost kitchens’, or ‘cloud kitchens’, Dark Kitchens are independent operations creating food for a multitude of brands, such as the Slick Restaurant Group is doing, having opened its operation with five restaurant brands initially, and more planned, all food prepared from one Central kitchen, with obvious cost benefits. Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for our first full sunshine day in about a week, giving me energy to work and to walk, which I haven’t felt in the week, and a perfect shorts day; for my writing work completed early; for Henry our Building Manager helping me to fix some issues which I discovered over the weekend; for a lovely walk up to Clifton 4th Beach via Glen Beach, with barely any litter, seeing my Saturday evening ‘date’ driving past with a wave; for having a public holiday tomorrow; for another walk with my rake to clean up the dog poo; and a third walk this afternoon to Bakoven, bumping into Howard as well as Lisa Hayden; for a spoil delivery from The Slick Group; for the City of Cape Town having the storm water drains on Victoria Road cleaned out; for a Vit D dose on the terrace; for my electric blanket 🙏; and for feeling happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for more rain falling today, even though it wasn’t forecast; for finishing a Camps Bay Beachfront walk before the rain came along surprisingly, and it not being too cold to be outside, few exercisers being outside; for getting my writing done early this morning; for an interesting visit to the new The Slick Group central city kitchen for Deliveries and Collection, which commences tomorrow; for the cancellation of my trip to Stellenbosch, giving me time to discover some Lockdown Food gems in the City; for a fabulous lunch order I placed at Pilcrow & Cleaver, roasted tomato soup perfect for the rainy day, and an extra duck spring roll treat; for the weather clearing, allowing me another walk, through Bakoven; for a happy candlelight evening dancing 💃 to Kfm at home; and for being happy and healthy, my temperature reading being 37C at one of my stops. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
