Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for another lucky day of this lucky week; for meeting the team of 18 Camps Bay Car Guards when they were introduced to us as residents (all 4 of us who pitched) this morning, and spoilt with a donut treat; for an invitation to lunch at Utopia on the 15th floor of the Mirage building in De Waterkant, to try out the restaurant with a view, the highest restaurant in Cape Town, a lovely lunch with generous portions; for a second Camps Bay walk to buy the third Daily Maverick 168 to date; for dancing to the Kfm Blok Party; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Restaurant Review: Pilcrow & Cleaver a hidden City gem, with hands-on Chef & Owner Judi Fourie!

When I first heard that Pilcrow & Cleaver had opened on Parliament Street last year, I couldn’t get my tongue around its unusual name, and it seemed to be out of the way relative to where I normally go if I am in the City centre. After a first chance visit during Lockdown, I was hooked, when I bought a Take-Home meal of duck spring rolls, and can’t miss visiting the small cosy open-plan restaurant when I am in town, always being able to find parking near the Groote Kerk. On Sunday evening I enjoyed my first Sit-Down meal at Pilcrow & Cleaver, as a birthday celebration for my friend Katie Friedman, having previously collected freshly-made dishes from the restaurant to take home. Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 33 of Level 3, 3 July 2020.

Friday 3 July 2020, Day 33 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4 (99th day of Lockdown) 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a very up and down day, learning that one needs the bad to appreciate the good even more; for catching up on sleep during the early morning and afternoon after a very restless night, having terrible toothache, needing to take painkillers; for a good writing morning, getting back into my rhythm again; for a lovely walk in Camps Bay, initially feeling sorry for myself, but once the painkiller kicked in I was right as rain, meeting Chris Robson, a newish Facebook friend from Sea Point, he recognizing me 😱, and we will meet next week for a chat, as he is in the hospitality industry too, chatting to Juanita Sweeney from Rainbow, and Jameela and her husband, the couple I met yesterday about the shop they want to open, loving her confidence and negotiating power with the landlord, all three full of compliments, making me feel much better; for what was meant to be a quick terrace snooze in the sun becoming an hour long sleep, Minsky lying on the second lounger, just like her mom…. 🐱❤️; for the highlight of the day being a visit to Bidvest Bank in Sea Point , to cash in the few $€£ still sitting in a travel card from last year, with the most amazing service; for celebrating with an ice cream at The Dairy Den, even though the (cracked) cone broke and fell into my lap…. 😱; for a lovely visit to Café Charles in De Waterkant to meet Justine Bee and to hand her the bottle of ADHARA extra virgin olive oil which she won for the presentation of her delicious Lamb Curry and information provided with the Food Delivery; and for feeling happy and healthy 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Restaurants offering Sit-Down service in Cape Town and Winelands in Lockdown Level 3: a First List!

On Monday restaurants were allowed to reopen for Sit-Down Service, after having only been allowed to offer a Food Delivery service from May, and a Food and Alcohol Delivery and Collection Service from June onwards.

I have been requested to prepare a list of Restaurants offering a Sit-Down Service, in addition to the Facebook Group which I created of Restaurants offering Food and Alcohol Delivery and Collection. The majority of restaurants offering a Sit-Down service will continue offering a Food and Alcohol Delivery and/or Collection Service.  Continue reading →
