the-test-kitchen-cape-town-south-africa Conde Nast TravelerInfluential travel publication Condé Nast Traveler has announced its 2015 Readers Choice Top 15 Food Cities in the World. For the first time Cape Town is at the top of the list!

The choice of Cape Town is justified as follows:  ‘From sipping regional rosé on Table Mountain to scarfing hake and fries at Kalky’s, there’s a breezy simplicity to Cape Town’s iconic eating experiences. To taste the Mother City’s more refined side, book a table at modern food lab the Test Kitchen (pictured)—yoghurt snowballs, anyone? If you can’t get a table, the Pot Luck Club across the way at the Old Biscuit Mill serves a fairly amazing tapas-style menu that does something for every taste bud (sweet, salty, even umami); come on the weekend to try some of the best small bites from around the city at the Neighbourgoods Market. End the evening on the cool courtyard at the Gin Bar, where bartenders mix drinks using small-batch spirits flavored with local flora‘.

Last year Cape Town made the number 3 slot, and The Test Kitchen and Pot Luck Club were also included in the motivation for our city’s ranking.

The world’s best food cities are as follows, not all readers being in agreement with the cities listed, and with many of the city rankings:

1.   Cape Town

2.  Dubai – a surprise

3.   Hong Kong

4.   Buenos Aires

5.   Tel Aviv

6.   Gustavia, St Barts

7.   Taipei

8.   Singapore

9.   Shanghai

10. Tokyo

11.  Toronto

12.  Sydney

13.  Rio de Janeiro

14.  Vancouver

15.   London – the low ranking is a surprise.

South Africa has just been named the third favorite city to travel to by 75000 Telegraph readers, after New Zealand and the Maldives.

Cape Town was named the Best City by the Telegraph readers, followed by Vancouver and Venice.

Cape Town deserves all its accolades, with its beauty and food quality! The favorable exchange rate for tourists is a further advantage too!

  1. In December, BA are laying on an additional 777 service from Gatwick to CPT 3 times a week. This is on top of the 2x daily 747 service from LHR. One wonders why SAA don’t fly the same route???
