Sunday 17 January 2021, Day 21 of Level 3 Adjusted, Day 298 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a 23C day, with the wind only picking up this afternoon; for both Imtiaz and Carmen of my cleaning team being at work today, tackling half of Geneva Drive with me; for getting some water to drink from WCafé at Woolworths after our strenuous walk, with a 200 Discovery point bonus for me; for a snooze this afternoon with My Grey lying next to my pillow, his sleeping place; for a second Camps Bay walk with Carmen, in the greater Tidal Pool area; for a fabulous spoil by Pick n Pay of a bulk pack of Smarties at the promised Black Friday price of 33% off, the box arriving 2 1/2 months later; for not even being aware of Loadshedding starting at 12h00, not affecting me at all; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙

I had a meeting with Imtiaz and Carmen at my home this morning, confirming once again their weekday and weekend working hours. Given the absenteeism of this week, they are to message me when they cannot get to work. The route they are to walk to clean between Bakoven and Fourth Beach Clifton was confirmed. This after 2 1/2 months of working together. 😱

We walked up Geneva Drive, cleaning park spaces with lots of litter, turning down Sedgmore Road, and connecting back to Victoria Road. When I returned to meet the team at 5pm, Imtiaz had left without notifying me! 😱

Correct Mask wearing, or wearing masks at all, in the past two days has been at 10%. Shocking. I address everyone I see. One couple told me that they are husband and wife, walking together on the pavement, and therefore do not need to wear a mask! Culprits are across the board, and yesterday they were mainly Cliftonites. 😷😱

When I organized the water at WCafé for the three of us, I was allowed a cup of cold water but my two staff not! TriBeCa owning WCafes count the cups, and must be linked to income! I called a Woolworths manager as it seemed so discriminatory, given that I have drunk water there for at least a year. On top of that a very rude security man in charge of the Promenade building shouted at Imtiaz in Afrikaans, telling him to get up from sitting on the step near the WCafe. I had just told him seconds before to come and sit at the table with me! I gave him a mouthful. He replied by translating for me what he had said. I told him that I understand Afrikaans perfectly. Imtiaz wore a uniform, which the security guy would recognize. Imtiaz is Indian, and the Afrikaans directed at him was so insulting. Ironically we had cleaned outside the mansion on Geneva Drive of one of the Solomon Brothers, his employer, this morning!

Mr Grey is is so smart, after only five days with me, and knows which door is the fridge door with his and Minsky’s afternoon treats, and where in the kitchen I prepare their treat plates. He cries for his treat, even though he has a bowl of pellets available all the time. Minsky is settling down, but not quite there yet, spending most of the day in the field next door. I left them alone together when I did the Camps Bay walk this afternoon.

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, and moved back to Adjusted Level 3 from 29 December, and extended to 15 February on 11 January, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
