Corona Gratitude 🙏
#Grateful for another rainy day, not too cold at 16C; for giving myself this morning off, a rare treat, meeting Isabella Niehaus for coffee/tea and a treat at Manna Epicure, personally looked after by owner Agnes Renault; for a special lunch at the brand new Oxalis Restaurant, which is owned by four former female staff of Janse & Co; for a productive afternoon writing replies to lost baggage and flight cancellation customer complaints, the first in German and the second in English, for a potential airline call centre job application; for a longer call to my Alex, doing better and better career-wise; for a walk through Camps Bay, a refreshing break after being indoors all day; for two Discovery Gameboard plays making 330 Miles; for Discovery Cashbacks for Healthy Food purchases and for one-third back on the Adidas shoes I bought at Sportsman’s Warehouse last month; for the interest rate remaining unchanged; and for being much happier and healthy today. 🙏💙
I felt guilty not writing a Blogpost today, but it was such a treat to meet Bella this morning, that I realized that I must make time for researching stories too. I brought Bella a bottle of ADHARA olive oil for being a Woman Restaurateur in Langebaan (and award-winning cookbook writer). I loved how our masks came down figuratively and literally in catching up in the hour together. I ate a crispy croissant 🥐 at Manna, and Bella a Pasteis de Natas, not charged by Agnes. 🙏. And then kind Bella bought Agnes’ cook book. And she brought me a most delicious full seed loaf of bread she baked this morning. ❤️❤️❤️ Bella and I discovered that we both love Jameson whiskey… 🥃. I tried to buy Viennas at the little German butcher across the road, but he was sold out. I met Clare Johnson there, who recognized me from a Camps Bay Facebook page, and told me that she and her family are coming to the Beach clean- up on Saturday. 🙏🙏🙏
I’m looking for Raw Honey at The Ladder in Bree Street, having loved the one I bought a few months ago during Lockdown. I went back two weeks ago, and they were sold out. Today I popped in again, and the bottles had now doubled in price and were crystallized… the excuse being that it was due to Covid, such a lie….. 😱🥵. That’s it, my last time there.
Oxalis is the name for Wood Sorrel (surings in Afrikaans), with two chefs (Liezl and Lise) and two front of house (Yo and Jade). It is above Honest Chocolate on Wale Street. The decor is unusual, homely, green, and the dishes kept at very reasonable prices, each under R100. I had the most delicious chicken liver parfait, leek and asparagus, and chocolate mousse, being less partial to the Oxalis Fried Chicken. Good service. 👏👏👏
The thumbs are being held for good news from President Cyril tonight…. perhaps put the bubbly on ice already. 🥂🍾

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, and lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
